Now that there is a definitive beginning and end to Jake Peavy's White Sox career, how do you view his signing in retrospect? Was it successful? For the amount of money Ken Williams shelled out and for what the White Sox eventually got in return for him, would you consider Peavy to be a huge bust?

we paid jack shit in specs. 75% of his contract was insured if he got hurt. i wouldnt say bust....just unlucky with his arm injury. if he was traded and started having horrible numbers while no injury issues...than that would be a bust.

Did they get value the first time around? Hard to say. Did they get value on this contract? I would say yes. They pay what $6-9 million for one solid hitting prospect, three young possibilities and had Jake for the first four months of the season in case the Sox could do something this year which they were unable to do. For me this contract was a success.

I don't mind that it was a pure salary dump, but given the revenue money coming this off season (25M), and the money from Thornton, Crain, Konerko, etc coming off the books, I think I may have preferred to send money to Boston for better prospects.

That said, at the time it appeared to be so that they could send money to a team that was going to take on Rios and/or Ramirez. But, obviously, that didn't happen (at least not yet).

Other than his name, I don't really like Avisail Garcia. Doesn't walk a lot, projects to be another low OBP guy in the line up like Viciedo has been.

Hopefully he can become a great player, but I'm skeptical.

His OBP is .407 and he's got 9 BBs. It's not like he can't walk. His patience should come with maturity. He's not walking a lot because he's hitting the ball and putting it in play with his .366 avg. He's been on Detroit's big league team twice and once for the playoffs and did fairly well. He's ready to come up and play everyday. Hopefully we're in the process of waiving Rios and we can get rid of him to open up a spot. Although I wouldn't want to just get rid of Rios for the sake of getting rid of him when Paul with be gone after the year and we could move Viciedo to first or 3rd if we got McCann

You're right, Garcia has nothing left to prove in AAA. He'll probably be promoted in Sep or if Rios is moved via the waiver-wire.

I'm not saying he doesn't have anything let to prove. He can always improve ofcourse and I know he's only 22 but I think with playing with Detroit twice he's ready to play everyday in the bigs.

I cant beleive we got anything for this guy. He's always hurt. But I get what you are saying about him being a good try by the Sox cuz none of the guys we traded were any good. Don't care about the money spent. Not my money, and you gotta spend it on someone.
