There's a $250,000 buyout for the option. Paulino sat out for the entire 2013 season due to shoulder issues, but he's expected to carry a clean bill of health into the spring of 2014 and is capable of a big bounceback summer. The 30-year-old right-hander had a 1.67 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings with the Royals in 2012.

@keithlaw: Hearing Skaggs-Trumbo discussion now includes White Sox possibly getting Adam Eaton, sending Hector Santiago to Angels

@Buster_ESPN: The logic for the CWS in getting Adam Eaton, if it happens, is that they need a CF. The Angels get pitching. The D-Backs could get Trumbo.
@scottmerkin: Heard this morning White Sox were close on something and that could be the three-way deal mentioned by @keithlaw

I think I would rather keep Santiago if we only get Eaton. I on;t really see him as an upgrade over De Aza.

brett, the Sox have a surplus of pitching. Can't keep everyone.

Eaton is left handed in which the Sox lineup lacks.

Did you happen to see the thread on 2013 White Sox - worse than we thought? Our pitching was ninth in the AL and that was w Sale. Its awful poor after Chris.

De Aza is also a lefty so its a wash from that perspective

adam eaton is young and has a career .450 OBP in the minors. he is an OBP machine. I would love to have him and Kendrick. Santiago can go, Quintana is the real deal vs Santiago. we have too many south paws in the rotation.

12:33pm: The White Sox have asked the Halos about Hank Conger this winter, but he's not believed to be in play on this trade, tweets Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times.

12:22pm: The deal is "getting pretty close," a source tells MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez (Twitter link). Though he was discussed in a separate trade with the White Sox and Angels, Kendrick is not part of this deal, Gonzalez adds

1) I don't care what they throw with, just pitch well.
2) Eaton has played well in the Minors, but I don't know if it translates to the Bigs. Plus he doesn't have SB speed that you want to see. It could work though, but just way too much of a personnel cost for Santiago.
3) As I said, Kendrick is a better hitter than Beckham but not 4x better which is his salary.

I don't want bits to equal a byte. I want a byte or two for a good quality young cost controlled pitcher. Santiago is worth that and I have not seen anything yet that says otherwise. For me I have Santiago over Q. I would keep Q, Sale, and Santiago as my three pitchers and make others available.

@philgrogers: White Sox's addition of Adam Eaton opens door to trading Alejandro De Aza, who could fit with @Orioles and @SFGiants , among others.

Phegley back up and Wieters starting. Maybe package De Aza and something else for Wieters.
