I'm telling you right now, I don't think it's Thibs. I think he'll end up in New York if they can't get a flashier sign like Calipari from UK or Phil Jackson or someone. Thibs was an asst in NY, he's got some sort of relationship w/ Dolan, and he's been frustrated w/ the Bulls ownership/GM for 2+ years.

So -- who do you think coaches the Bulls next season?

It better be Thibs. You can't blame him for the injuries [for the most part] and lack of talent on this team. If management fires him, then they're just trying to put the blame on someone else other than themselves.

If Tim Duncan doesn't exercise his player option for next year, I think Popovic retires, Thibs finds a way to get out of his contract and he ends up in San Antonio. I think his style and locker room culture would be welcomed to that franchise and fan base.

I think if Thibs gets fired, Foreman gets fired too. That is just how good Thibs really is, as a coach. And if you have that mess going on, it might mean the end of Pax, something a lot of people would like to see.

Interesting, so neither a defensive or an offensive minded coach, but a whole different outlook on the game all together. Basically phone in the first half of every game, then heat check for the entire 2nd half. Odds are you can win 50% of your games that way.

That would be on par with the team right now under Thibs so...hey, not that much of a drop off! :derbulls:

Do you really believe this, or just kidding around?

The Bulls actually play hard in the first half under Thibs. They suck at scoring, but the team is not phoning it in. Imagine if they did, then we might have a better draft position. LOL

Aside from being in the dumps after Rose hurt his other knee, this team is playing 48 minute games. The players are positioning themselves like a chess game, every night, and barely make position mistakes. That's one thing you can't fault Thibs for, ever. He prepares these guys to be in the right spot, or they hit the folding chairs and lose their playing time. As far as other mistakes, how much of that do you blame on Thib's gameplan, and how much of that would you blame on the players he has at his disposal?

I see Thibs coaching this team next year. The media is really trying to talk on Thibs getting traded. There is friction obviously but I think it's a bit exaggerated.

Popovic already said in the past that he's leaving once Tim Duncan is gone.

I'm not really sure if Thibbs will be back or not. It's no secret and he and management have had a falling out for quite some time but I don't see how they could just up and fire him(without some sort of consequence). I'm not sure he would make a demand to go else where like Doc Rivers but who knows.

IMO, a little of both. Players are worn down under Thibs -- it only stands to reason. And tired players make mistakes...or over-used players get hurt and under-used players are forced to replace them, which would result in more mistakes. At the end of the day, it definitely has to do with who he CAN put on the floor...but I don't buy the argument that Thibs is blameless in this (not that you're giving that argument.)

I don't think management fires him. If anything I think he looks to get out of his contract because I really don't think he wants anything to do with a rebuild.

Thibs is not perfect, and yes, I'm not giving that argument. He still is iffy to pull the trigger on under-developed players to get them game experience.

I don't fully buy into the modern(key word, modern) argument of players getting worn down. Marathon runners go for 2+ hours(train almost as hard, or harder sometimes), multi-athlete competitions go for hours as well, and these people train and compete. Football used to be an ironman format. Basketball rosters were smaller because starters would play more(in Chuck Taylors and with the poor sports science to understand how to boost recovery, conditioning, nutrition) than what Thibs does. None of these examples are what I am advocating for modern basketball to be, but we know these guys are still far from so many comparisons of what really is, wearing someone down.

To determine what wears down a player, is all judged at an individual level. A good argument can be made, that a lot of guys that were good to go, were forced to sit by coaches decision or trainers. Which basically means out of the natural events of the season, some of the injuries were over-reported. Something different from years past(yes, humans can learn from their mistakes and adjust). If Thibs did not improve on his player rotations, then I would be 100% with you, but the fact is, he has already made a lot of progress, to the point that I don't even think it's worth mentioning, and to take it to another level, to the point where I hope he isn't afraid to give key players big minutes in the playoffs. Catch22 in the works, damned if you play the guy, damned if you don't.

For example, Luol led the league in MPG at ~39mpg. But historically, that is 2-4MPG lower than everyone else that led the league in MPG in the last decade, and even more MPG lower than the decade before. He relied on Luol, used him too much, but not SOO much, that it became a serious and ignored problem. Also, Thibs trend with playing his captains high minutes has adjusted, so we can see that he is fully aware that he had to adjust his own logic of how he distributes player's gametime. And this season, when going on a skeleton crew, in times where it would be far more understandable to give guys almost 48MPG, Jimmy Butler in a pinch style, he has backed off goto guy usages.

Would be very interesting to see them bring Phil Jackson back.

Hopefully Thibs is coaching.

I don't know what to say about this fanbase (well, a segment of it). They turned against the best player that we've had since Michael Jordan & the best coach we've had since Phil Jackson.
