I was wondering who the fan would be that would weigh in Robert Mays' choice.

Southern Miss is not a big enough program to matter. Tell me you don't know college football.

Heard Mays all but call Monken the next Bruce Arians today.

We know you for sure dont know shit about college football with all the shit players you've liked in drafts

I don’t know if Monken will make a good HC, but I don’t think you know the first thing about his background. Or at least, it doesn’t sound like you do.

He has a longer track record of success than the 2 years Johnson has had.

I’ve mentioned in a few threads what really separates the “genius” Ben Johnson and Monken? His offenses have been fantastic the last two years.

Look at how Georgia has fallen off since he left.

I’m not knocking Ben either but sometimes the media just doesn’t quit with a narrative.
Not to knock Monken, but I think there's a massive difference between turning Goff into what he is right now and taking a former MVP in his prime and having a top offense. McVay shipped Goff off because he hated the guy and McVay is one of the brightest offensive minds in the NFL.

How did Monken’s offense look at UGA with elite QBs like Stetson Bennett and Jake Fromm?

Chip Kelly and Steve Spurrier were great in college too. Whether you like it or not, there is a massive difference between basically making Goff borderline elite, and going to an offense that already had been top 10 3 times in the last 5 years with Lamar. And that's not a knock on Monken, I think he's good.

Goff threw for 4700 yards and 32 TD's without ben johnson...

Lamar looks like he's an elite passer now, that didnt occur prior to monken

Lamar is Lamar, but that offense has absolutely been taken to another level sine Monken’s arrival.

I agree with your point about the differences between college and the pros, but Monken has had tremendous success at both levels.

He can call a helluva game.

Give me the young "up and comer" candidate with playcalling experience over the soon to be 59 year old Monken.

Not sure why, but I have Joe Brady pegged as my top HC candidate.

Not even remotely close
Resumes look quite different. My biggest issue with Monken is that he'll be 59 next month and I was hoping for someone 20 years younger. Wouldn't hate it.

He was the offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay and called plays for one year. The other two years he was there Dirk Koetter was the head coach called plays. His depth of experience as a successful play caller is extremely limited as was development of an offensive scheme because it was Koetter's scheme.

Koetter coached at Arizona State and I've followed ASU in depth since 1991 so I have a deep familiarity with him and his offense. Monken had nothing to do with anything of note in Tampa.

So the idea that Monken ran anything successful in Tampa is BS because it was Koetter's offense and for two years his play calling.

Maybe go and learn something before coming for me.

If you'd like to discuss more on Dirk Koetter and his long career as an offensive coordinator and his development of QBs let me know. Koetter was also the offensive coordinator at Boise State this year.

Confirmed. You know next to nothing about Monken’s background. I could give a shit about Koetter. I’ve been following Monken’s career for years. He is the topic of discussion.

Go study up on the actual candidate this thread is about, and get back to me.

Oh, and your statement “his depth as a successful play caller is extremely limited” is perhaps the dumbest thing I’ve heard in awhile, and further confirmation you know nothing about Monken.

so tell me about the success he had in Tampa Bay calling plays within Dirk Koetter's offensive scheme. It was Koetter's offense.

Your turn.

Decades of experience. OC at OK St, HC at Southern Miss, TB days, and of course, his years at UGA and recently at BAL where his depth at play calling has been top-flight for many years. Most specifically at UGA and at BAL.

Now tell me about all of the success Johnson has had calling plays outside of the last 2 years.
