From my count the Bulls need a minimum of 1 more player. Anyone have any idea about who it might be? I had read a few rumors, but they all seem to have dried up. I kind of assume it will be a vet non PG.

Any ideas?

The Bulls have the minimum 12. But they need that insurance big.

1Rose, 2Kirk, 3Teague, 4Butler, 5Snell, 6Dunleavy, 7Deng, 8Taj, 9Booz, 10Murphy, 11Jo, 12Nazr

The Minimum is 13.

8 is the legal minimum(meaning the NBA can decide to fine you if you don't have a good case for having 12-men, like retirements, injuries, send-down/call-up in limbo), 12 is the opening day minimum, 12 is also the active roster maximum, 13 maximum actively listed at the game time(loophole for players that have qualified of being inactive for I think, 5 games, but may be activated), 15 maximum retained with two inactive.

It's not mandatory. If a team wants to dress 13 players, it can. 12 man is still the legal minimum. I think some of these writers are confused by the lockout exception(which was made permanent). The required 13 can be anything, but it is not the minimum. Technically the Bulls can claim Mirotic as an inactive 13th man(just using one crazy extreme as an example) to avoid potential penalty. I can see how the verbiage makes it confusing.

And the 14 man average is what the league guarantees, targeting under-cap loopholes(ie: A team trying to go to extremes to not spend money, puts up a miserable pro-team, ect.)

Required, minimum whatever, they definitely need one more big, just to have someone who has learned the system and can be available when someone gets a major or minor injury. And someone will get injured.

They have plenty of guards, too many to play everybody, and if needed Deng can get minutes at the 2 and if it came to it with people fouling out Rose and Teague could play together. So you figure it's 4 because Taj can play the 5, Butler and Dunleavy can play the 3 and Deng can get minutes at the 4.

If it's a veteran what matters is attitude. Does that guy sign with the understanding that he's going to practice hard, mentor the young guys and probably not play much. You don't want a 13th guy who might be 35 or older who comes in in good shape and thinks he's turned back the hands of time and causes problems when he doesn't play.

I agree, they need one more big. Didn't mean to derail with semantics.

Jamison, Gooden, Cole Aldrich, Ivan Johnson

It's a meh list, but those are guys that I could see playing some kind of role. Odom is still out there too, he's Mr. Unlucky lately, but given the right situation who knows, because he still can ball.

From the link that you linked:

"While individual teams are only required to carry a minimum of 13 players, (12 active and one inactive), the NBA also guarantees a league-wide average of at least 14 players per team. The league is surcharged if they do not meet this obligation."

It is 13.

I don't like him either. But he isn't a diva, just a goofy character. Not as goofy as Nate though, LOL. So really, I think the Bulls could handle him, and the way Thibs works, if Drew didn't contribute a positive(or best case solution), then Thibs wouldn't play him.
