Who is our new 'Talent Guy'?

This is a serious question as I am not sure who the primary point person in the Blackhawks organization is for scouting and talent evaluation now that Tallon and Dudley have gone elsewhere.

We have 5 picks in the first two rounds. Bowman is known as our "numbers guy", our "capologist". Who is he relying on to feed him intel on the players available in the draft tomorrow? Is it Cheveldayoff? Scotty Bowman, McIssac or Bergevin? Aside from Bowman, who we all know is a genius, are any of these other guys any good at talent evaluation? Even Bowman, who is in his mid-70's now, has to be slightly out of touch with the players at the junior hockey level right now, correct?

These picks would give me comfort if we still had Dudley and Tallon in the fold, but we don't. So who is really making the call on Friday?

This is exactly the reason why McD tore down the front office.

It literally is a watered down version of what it once was. Although we still have some top notch personnel in Stan Bowman, Scotty Bowman, Marc Bergevin, Mark Kelly, Ron Anderson, and maybe some others I can't think of at the top of my head.... but regardless, its far from what it once was with Tallon and Dudley here. The front office use to be stacked, now it just looks normal. Who knows, Cheveldayoff looks like a great guy and Al MacIssac -- well so far all his picks have busted like crazy (Smolenak anyone?), but either way, gotta let them run their course before passing judgment.

So far it looks like Stan has been feeding crow, which FYI I never doubted him (and still don't, long way to go) even though people seem to have a grudge against him.

I have a lot of confidence that Stan has an eye for young talent just as Dale did and his gang.

Lets give Stan some time here he may suprise some of you.

Ton, i have to disagree with some of your comments. First off, the general comment on McD. When he took over he cleaned out the front office that did administrative work, all Dollar Bill loyalists who were clowns that most people wouldn't hire to wash their dishes. He did not clean out the scouting department. Say what you want about McD, and yes he is a cut throat bastard who demands results, but the truth is, nobody is better at marketing. And while it is true that he knows zero about hockey, nonetheless it didn't take him too long to figure out that Tallon/Dudley didnt know too much either. So he went out and got the very best hockey mind alive to run the show. Any complaints about that?

As for Dudley, all you need to about him was the trade made yesterday. Gm's were laughing at Stan when he was demanding a first round pick for Buff and said it would not happen. Dudley gave us a 1st, 2d, and a good prospect. LMFAO. And in return Dudley got a player who only shows up in the playoffs, but Thrashers are not going to the playoffs. Thrash also got some other players who are a dime a dozen.

As for Tallon, what more is there to say. He "built" this team? Yeah right. Big keys Keith and Seabs were 100% Mike Smith draft picks, Toews and Kane were draft picks Tallon got because his plan for to win the Cup (giving overrated UFAs big $$) turned a bad team into the worse team in the NHL. Buff was huge in the playoffs, but he was also a Smith pick. And don't forget it was Tallon who wanted to sign Havlat over Hossa (are you kidding me?). And it was Tallon who drafted (no) Skille when Kopitar was the obvious pick. And Dale hired coaches with no experience like Yawney and Savard. Compare them to Q.

And it was Tallon who gave away players like (to name few off the top of my head) Bourque, Vrbata and Craig Anderson -- which makes trading for players like Sharp and Steeger a wash. And it was Tallon who gave Campbell that asinine contract when anybody who knew how to evaluate hockey talent knew that the nucleus of Keith, Seabs, Kane and Toews would be a dynasty with the right support players and cap management. But Dale could not see that.

Dale is a great guy and his heart is shaped like the Indianhead, but if your longing for the days when Dale and Dudley oversaw the draft and amateur scouting, IMHO, we are MUCH MUCH better off now.

P.S. yes Ron, I know you disagree. You have a whole thread devoted to Dale which i chose not to post in, as i thought i would leave it as a love for Dale thread for his devoted fans. Your opinion is well known, and telling me who wrong i am in an offensive way is not really necessary. Gracias :)

Yes, I know I am cherry picking here, but this is what really stuck out to me.

Those 3 named above, Bourque, Vrbata and Craig Anderson, gave away, yes. I am surprised he got anything for those players.

Bouque is a nice LW, but really he is a dime a dozen talent wise. He was never the same after the scary throat thing.

Vrbata? Really? You want him back? Yeesh! No thank you. I know the Yotes love him. He is really kinda invisible.

Craig Anderson I see the point. But at the time, he wasn't good. He didn't fit. when did he get shipped out? 05-06? His first playoff appearance was this year. In his 2 years he played more then 20 games he went 6-14 and 6-12. You damn right we shipped him out.

You know what, I am not gonna say he was a shitty goalie though. Yeah, those were bad numbers, but what about the team in front of him? exactly.

He deserves the accolades he gets for the Steeg and Sharpie trades. Who did he get rid of for those players? St. Pierre and Meloche, right? And what NHL team are they on?

I will admit, he had some hiccups as well. Magnus Johanssen, Salmelianien, and yes, the Aucoin, Cullimore, and Khabby signings were dome scratchers in hindsight. Also keep in mind, that was when players didn't want to be in Chicago.

Was the Huet wearing number 39 when the Hawks made the conference finals 2 years ago versus Detroit? Khabby=headscratcher??? Hardly.

It's a little foggy but I remember him completely getting his ass whomped on at the UC during game #4. But again I'm old maybe he was pulled and put back in again.

Jako Versteeg came from Bochenski.

Sharp came from Ellison.

Well Larry appears I'm not the only one that thinks not only do you not know what the **** you are watching, but couldn't be further from obvious things you have NO FUCKING CLUE on if you fucking tried.

I had a huge laugh at that. There's so much bullshit in there I don't know where to start. Wonder what Larry thinks when both Seabrook and Keith publicly acknowledge it was Tallon doing their DRAFT INTERVIEW and pushed for them to be drafted. Kopitar the Obvious Pick? Really? He went fucking 11th!!!!! so 7 other GMS sucked? **** ME! What fucking UFA wanted to come here after the lockout? Please tell me? There are more holes in that bullshit I feel sorry for the NEW fans that actually read it and put any fucking merit into it at all.

And a small fyi for your tiny fucking brain, I had nothing to do with that Tallon thread. So as for your fucking troll at the end of your post, you got what you were looking for. TOOL!

Don't forget MacIssac brought you Ebbet too. Woo hooo

I have no real grudge against Stan other than I think he stabbed Dale in the back to some extent. If he can do the job then that benefits us all no matter how he arrived there. His first trade looks to be very good for the Hawks.

I also liked the move for Boynton near the end of the TDL and he proved to be useful in the finals with Hendry being banged up.

Stans jury will be out for awhile, as will Tallons future drafts. IE Lalonde, Beach, Carlsson, Ohlson.....
