Candidates:

Raheem Morris

When Dan Quinn gave up defensive play calling they improved significantly under Morris. He impressed a lot as the interim head coach when Quinn was fired.

Jay Rodgers

He's been with the Bears for six years now as defensive line coach. He decided to stay in Chicago when Fangio left to Denver. In 2018 season, Rodgers was named Defensive Line Coach of the Year

Gus Bradley

He was the defensive coordinator for the Chargers until the on going coaching change but he has done pretty dang well.

Wade Phillips

Recently fired from the LA Rams hrs been a solid defensive coordinator for years.

Rex Ryan

It'll be hard to lure him away from his cushy job as an analyst but he'd be a solid hire, the last time Bears had a Ryan they won a Superbowl.

Kris Richards

He didn't coach in 2020 but is a DB coach with some experience as Seahawks defensive coordinator.

Romeo Crennell

Vet of over twenty years in the NFL he's run a 4-3 and 3-4 defense and has done it all.

Rodgers.

Crennel, Ryan, and Phillips are old. Not interested in them at all.

Important to remember that Morris, Bradley and Crennel are just coming out of situations where the HC was fired, rendering them jobless. Granted, Morris and Crennel got to be interim head coaches, but I don't see any of these guys jumping back into a potential lame duck situation.

Also of note is that Nagy seems to be big on familiarity. He has consistently brought in guys he knows on the offensive side. He brought in a guy he didnt know on defense and it hasn't worked out. So, Rodgers makes the most sense to me.

Rodgers. He's probably also the only one who would take the job with Nagy in a lame duck year.

I like that he's young and has worked under a few different guys recently, including Fangio.

what draws you to saleh? i personally think an offensive coach is the way to go.
Our major commitments are on defense let’s start cashing in on that investment. Pagano obviously has squandered this investment. Saleh would kill it with what we have to offer.

one thing I have noticed is allot more ego with offense minded hc. We seen this twice with both trestman and Naggy. They just too hard headed to change what doesn’t work. Saleh would reign that in when the oc goes off the reservation like the dumb ass Naggy game plan focused on bums like Patterson. If he brings a shanahan system minded oc I think Montgomery could be one of the better rbs in the league.

i agree with a lot of what you said about the ego, that’s certainly true. the problem is i feel like a lot of that investment on D is already starting to break down. Hicks is over 30, Danny T is washed, Fuller is almost 30, Quinn is over 30, Mack is almost 30 i believe, and even eddie jackson is getting up there in age. I believe targeting a defensive minded head coach to capitalize on the investment is sunk cost fallacy.

I think offensive minded head coach is a better strategy because 1) offense is simply more important today, and 2) if a defensive coach hires a shannahan minded OC and they figure out how to play and find a QB, he’s gonna get poached. look how hard the falcons offense fell off following shannahan getting poached by san francisco.

Give me Rodgers. DL has been strong almost the entire time he has been here. He's even made relative nobodies like NIck WIlliams, Brent Urban, and Mario Edwards have career years, he's definitely got talent. Bears at one point had Rodgers as DL coach, Brandon Staley has LB coach, and Ed Donatell as DB coach. 2 of those 3 went on to be better DCs than the current guy, so hopefully Bears don't let the 3rd go. He'd be younger, cheaper, and better connected to the current team option than paying a has-been big money to come be the next Pagano.

For all you guys saying Donatell, the Broncos will block that lateral move.
