2017 was the year of "These are all day 2 or 3 picks in any other draft and smart teams will pass on all of them then tank for Darnold."

49ers are going to be the laughing stocks of this draft imo.
I think Lance will be good there because Shanahan is incredible with qbs. Had he gone anywhere else, I'd have fully expected him to bust. I still don't think he was the best choice for them though

They were both born in 1999 and grew up mere miles apart. They were endlessly compared to each other in high school and twice faced off on college football’s biggest stage. Now, they’ve become two of the most coveted quarterback prospects in the 2021 NFL draft.

The 247Sports composite recruiting rankings listed Lawrence and Fields as the top two players in the 2018 high school class; Lawrence had a rating of 0.9999, and Fields had a rating of 0.9998. (247 later commissioned an oral history of its own decision to rank Lawrence slightly ahead of Fields, which gets into the nitty-gritty of each player’s peaks and valleys in high school, and includes Georgia recruiting analyst Rusty Mansell saying, “I’m going to be talking about Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence for as long as I’m standing up.”) To this day, Lawrence and Fields are 247’s second- and third-highest-rated quarterback recruits of the modern era, behind only Vince Young and his perfect 1.0000 rating in 2002.

No fucking comparison to Trubs

The things about Trubisky is that he was under the radar until the college season was over. He shot up boards like a shooting star after the season and leading up to the draft. Fields has been more consistently up there the whole time all along, so I personally feel a bit more secure in that he isn't just the latest fad thing.

Here's (kinda) proof that Mitch was top ranked QB but not nearly the value that Fields is.
Always open to opinion but getting a QB that's the 11 best graded player at 11 is almost unheard of. 5 QBs in 15 picks is a 1st.

and none of them had the Bears taking a QB
Because Pace did great subterfuge (to his own detriment). If everyone actually knew how bad Glennon was...

Superbowl in 3 years boys

“He’s 100 percent about business,” said Larry Borom. “It’s not fun and games when we’re on the field. It’s definitely 100 percent business and he wants to do the job at the highest level that he can. I try to echo that with my play and it works out.

“It sets the tone for the whole offense. If you see your quarterback, he’s not messing around, it makes everyone else want to work 10 times harder.”

“Definitely, he gives out (a serious) demeanor on the field,” said Khalil Herbert. “I think guys gravitate towards it and it spreads to guys in the locker room. When we’re out there and he’s locked in, dialed in, making sure we’ve got the calls, got the plays, got the cadence. And it definitely helps, I feel like it runs a lot smoother, knowing what we gotta do, how to do it. To have that kind of clean, crisp mindset when we attack the line of scrimmage.”

If a player coming out of college is both statistically and athletically inferior to who you are comparing him to, I think that kind of answers the question as to who is/was the better prospect. The answer is clearly Justin Fields. I'm not sure you could point to a single thing Mitch did at North Carolina in his one year as a starter that was better than anything Justin Fields did in his 2 seasons at Ohio State while playing against better competition.

Justin Fields has been on everybody's radar since he was in High School. Nobody knew who Mitch Trubisky was until a few months before the NFL draft.

I’m not dissupting that Fields had a better college career but that is not what scouts base it on because football is a team game. Prospects are all about projections of how you would perform at the next level not what you have accomplished in college because it’s obvious that Ohio has a better football program to NC

Justin Fields was viewed like Watson in terms of pedigree. Mitch was viewed like Trey Lance.

Mitch Trubisky and Justin Fields are perfect examples of why all the pre-draft shit can be fucking garbage.

Trubisky needed lots of time to develop. But people got so caught up in his "upside" that he suddenly started to move up everyone's draft board. He had no business being drafted by the Bears at #2 and handed to Fox and Loggains, then being asked to start in game 5 of his rookie season because Glennon was a complete trainwreck.

Justin Fields had no business falling to #11 and being the 4th QB taken in this draft. It still blows my mind that we were in a position to go up and get him. We had built up a lot of QB karma, so whatever. But you could make a case for Fields going #1 overall. Thank fuck for the Dan Orlovskys and other talking heads of the world that suddenly started to make him trend downward.

In my opinion, in a few years, people will look back on this draft and say that 11 teams made a huge mistake not drafting Justin Fields.

This was Mac Jones this season. No thank you.
