And we have a winner.

(I'll overlook your "page beats may" folly since you got the big picture right. May's precision and uniquely delicious melodies piss all over Jimmy page).

These are the words of a socialist.

True dat.

Brian May is what got me started playing guitar 30 years ago and he influences my playing more than anyone to this day (with honorable mentions to Mark Knopfler, John Fruciante and Dave Gilmour). I'm all about tone and melody and Brian May just makes a guitar sing.

Page was mine, along with Gilmour. I was never all that into Queen. Not that I don't like them, think they're great, just was never like "let me get all the Queen albums and listen front to back."

That's the thing about music, it's entirely subjective and a matter of taste, like women or beer. Enjoy what you like. There's no objective right answer. I had to unfollow the guitar pages on Facebook after Brian May won the vote for best rock guitarist a few months ago and the meltdowns people were having (as they always do) - "this is BULLSHIT!!! No way is he better than [insert their favorite player]". I never understand why people argue over music like it's sports.

LOL, I don't know why people flip out about Brian May. He really is an amazing guitarist. I mean, I personally take Hendrix over everyone, and I'd pick quite a few more over May personally, but it's not like they picked some schlub. The only thing I believe is that Clapton is overrated. Technically fantastic, but all just robotic. It feels like he should be giving me guitar lessons. Give me Carlos Santana and Stevie Ray over Clapton any day of the week.

Yeah Clapton is good but not one of my favorites either. For the newer ones, I like that young kid Kingfish a lot. I'm usually more into subtlety than shredders when it comes to blues but that lad is definitely an exception.

YouTube is a blessing. I find so much random stuff when I'm baked and just get lost.

Clapton robotic? Have you lost your mind

Here he is playing at a Bob Dylan tribute concert. It's said that all the guest musican greats just watched with their mouths open and couldnt beleive what they were hearing. For those with low attention spans start at 3:32

And the genius doing the solo that every guitarist wishes they wrote. Often listed by critics as the greatest of all time. Clapton did this on the Beatles album in one take. 1:54

There's songs where he's fucking amazing, then others where he's like, "okay kids, this is how you play a pentatonic scale." Plays too many songs with no soul. Just get his greatest hits and call it a day.

Also, no one cares about your crappy taste in guitarists.

I agree Clapton can play guitar but he doesn’t have that emotional feel that my favorites have. He is not in my top 5 and maybe not in my top 10.

From a technical standpoint, he's probably one of the best. You get songs like Layla and While My Guitar Gently Weeps and you can feel it. Then there's other shit where it's like, meh.

I hear ya. I’d like to hear the original guitar on while my guitar gently weeps. It has so much effects put on it from the original lead....to,make it sound “ beatlely” from what I have read

Prince shreds the absolute **** out of it in the tribute to Harrison. Love seeing it.
