I was just watching that the other day. The song has always been 1 of my “star songs” as I call them. We had a list back in the late 70’s that we started....

Easily one of my favorite songs.

Yep. One of those songs that will never fail. The kinda of song I strive to write but I don’t even come close...more like a bad Police song.

at 1:39 Page butchers the solo on this great Joe Cocker song. I believe he was criticized for his performance by Rolling Stone for his choppy, staccato style. He could have taken a more soulful approach like the rest of the song. Clapton would have turned it into a great solo

I’m sorry, at the instructions of the producer Page played exactly what he wanted. if he intended to have the solo another way he would have done it with someone else. It’s in the song meaning the producer got what he wanted. Stop....get educated.

Totally untrue. Back then Page was producing on his own and was brought in for "his take". This was his interpretation, not the producers or Cocker who never instructed musicians. He fucked up on his own. You have to admit it blows and doesnt even fit the song

Admit Page put out some crap solos. The proof is on the record for all to hear for 50 years. Rolling Stone ripped him. His solo is unlike the rest of the song. WTF is wrong with Page. Less than his best effort

Rolling Stone also made him the 2nd greatest guitarist of all time, far ahead of Mick Taylor and over Eric Clapton.

Rolling STone and every other critic sources has radically changed their rating over the years. Many times they had Clapton second

Here they have Clapton #2

Ommy's "proof" is always someone else's words. I hate discussing what musician is better with musically illiterate people.

Tone ... odd phrasing ... lyrical ... no effects.

As BB King said, tone comes entirely from the fingers, and the soul.

Whatever you want to think is “your” opinion. For me Page is the best. For you he is not....move on
