Why Does Everyone Want To See Beckham And Ramirez Traded?

To be clear, I don't think either are great players. But they are both solid major leaguers with at least three prime years left, they shouldn't be terribly expensive to re-sign, and the Sox have nothing to replace them. If Sale and Eaton can stay healthy, and Garcia can come back at or near 100% next year, the Sox are a starting pitcher away from being a legit contender next year in my opinion. But I hear this constant let's trade Beckham and Ramirez talk, and I just don't get it. I'm not trying to be argumentative here, I'd just like to hear someone rationalize why those two should go. Because they're going to be relatively inexpensive, the Sox have no one to replace them, and they're not going to get much in return for a trade. May as well keep them and hope they can be Joe Crede/Aaron Rowand types who can play good defense and provide at least adequate offense.

Gordon Beckham is just catching on at the MLB level... he is starting to see more pitches in each at bat and getting deeper into counts... He is an excellent 2nd baseman and has solid power on offense...

The guy is still young enough to have a solid career as a white sox second baseman... I can't see why with the way he is hitting why he cant turn things around and end up having a couple of 300 seasons in his career... he has shortened his swing, gotten quicker hands, got rid of that big ugly hitch in his swing, and because of that has struck out less and has seen much more pitches... He is noticeably better at protecting the outer half of the plate with 2 strikes also...

Today Beckham did everything you want a lead off man to do...

In reality though Gordan Beckham set both of those players up by taking the pitcher deep into a battle and beating him... The psychological advantage and momentum was snowballing in the White Soxs direction...

It wasn't just a base hit that gained that momentum... it was the fact that the pitcher threw 10 pitches and couldn't beat Beckham

My only gripe about Beckham today and there was something to gripe about was that early in the game he should have went hard into home plate and taken that catcher out... There is only 1 way to play pro sports and that is full speed...

1) new rule protects catcher
2) there are tons of in house replacements
3) ramirez is expensive
4) Beckham is playing for job and might be playing for trade value
5) ramirez is in demand

Beckham always does this to us. He has a good month or two and will be hitting .300 but then he will revert back to being Beckham. Hitting .150-.220. Trade him while has value.

As far as Ramirez. He is older and very expensive. Get a younger SS or some really quality pitching.

I do not trade Alexi. No way. He is really having an MVP type season. And certainly merits a starting all-star short-stop award. He won't get it because
they will vote for some guy from New York:) But Alexi is the best short-stop in the AL right now.

I would trade Beckham, though. The Sox are loaded with 2nd basemen who can play and are much cheaper. Get a first rate Starting pitcher or a
first rate closer please.

Ramirez has averaged about 3.0 fWAR as season since 2010. Ramirez fields well, etc.

Ramirez would probably grab a decent return.

Beckham, as stated in post 2, is slowly starting to become an MLB calibre player. Beckham was playing well before his injury, so he's getting a second chance. If they play well, they will move him. There are players in the minors waiting (Johnson, Sanchez, Semien, etc).

I think both are moved at some point.

FWIW:

Carlos Sanchez (AAA Charlotte): .280/374/341 (715). (plays SS/2B)
Micah Johnson (AA Birmingham)*: .329/414/466 (880) (2B).

*Promoted to AAA Charlotte

Another reason that you do not move Alexi is the impact that would have on the other Cubans on the roster. Alexi is the senior guy there and
is having an all-star season. You do not mess with three other guys on the roster.

He certainly isn't "old" and he is an all-star. Who do you think could be as good as he is offensively or defensively? Good short-stops and catchers do
not grow on trees.

if we fall real far back from a wild card and ramirez keeps playing the way he is, you might be surprised at the haul.

I'm tired of the "haul" type thinking as in trade every good player that you have and HOPE like hell that one of these "prospects" will turn
into another type guy that you already have.

IF they are going to trade anyone, trade Dunn. Trade Beckham. When they get Garcia back next year, their outfield will be one of the best in all of baseball.
Their trouble is that they have given away a lot of first class pitching in the last 3 years and the well is pretty dry. Reinsdorf needs to spend some money.
I thought at the beginning of the year that they would pay a price for not bringing in a solid starting pitcher, a quality left out of the pen, and of course, a closer.

This is fixable without losing their young core. Dunn now has some value as does Beckham. They have replacements right now to fill their spots
in the batting order. this should be a no brainer.

There's a guy that is leading the league in wins and ERA that we let go. I'd kind of like to have that one back. Peavy. Reed. Thornton. Gonzales.BTW I am not
saying that the trades were a bad idea or that they didn't get something good back. What I am saying is that they lost quite a bit of pitching in the last
couple of years and the well is pretty dry in the minors to boot.

We lost Mark in FA, he did not get traded, he choose elsewhere, right?
Peavy was as much him as us. Wouldn't call him elite last year would you?
Reed is overrated, we beat him right? :)
Thorton would be nice, but not a make it or break it pitcher.
Gonzalez????
Santiago was one I wanted to keep and he's been shelled repeatedly.
I actually like some of the minor league pitching we have. It'll be another year or two, but it's pretty solid I feel for what we have.

Gio Gonzales. Traded for Adam Dunn. Bad trade.

Reed. Better than any reliever we have now.

Buerhle" We let him go right? Wanted that one back, don't you?

Thornton: Year in and year out. a top 3-4 lefty out of the pen.

Peavy: Still a number 3 starting pitcher.

Those guys were all good White Sox pitchers and except for a couple of guys are better than what we've got now. This team does need pitching.
Right now the staff is full of question marks.
