I guess you can't understand what responsibility and success vs failures are. That first sentence is one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

Yeah, I don't even really fault him for "missing" on Mitch. It's fine, whatever. As I posted yesterday, dude said he was going to draft a QB every year (like that team up North who has owned our asses since 1990), and that turned out to be a lie to the fanbase. His choices aren't the failure...just the people he chose???
Isn't that an extension of his choices???
So let's take the least experienced one with the highest pick. I mean I can forgive him for Mahomes, but it felt like the entire world was telling him Watson.
So let's hire an inexperienced HC to pair with my inexperienced QB and instead of putting in the time and resources to build the offense around them...I dump all my resources into an All Pro Pass Rushers in an obvious "win now" move.
You might almost say the QB & HC were set up for failure.
This is professional football. Nothing happens all because of one person, but Ryan Pace holds a heavy hand.
I could forgive him for missing on the QB if we didn't literally trade above himself to miss on the QB.
I could forgive him for missing on the HC if he did not blow all his draft capitol and cap space before that HC even coached his first game.
I could forgive him for being a wreckless gambler if it got this team more than a single winning season.
And if the McCaskeys want to keep him around, I can forgive him for all this BS so long as he learns from it. Until then, I am still going to call him a ****ing idiot.
His choices aren't the reason things are the way they are it's the failure of those he choose to do the job required.
I have 3 thoughts.
1. The McCaskeys don't plan to fire Pace/Nagy with another year left on their deal.
2. Have the McCaskeys ever fired someone mid-season?
3. Maybe they are already planning on cutting ties with Pace and would like the new GM's input on Nagy
You're barking up the wrong tree these days. Nobody holds people accountable like that anymore, they look to the next level up. It cant be that Matt Nagy and Mitch Trubisky just aren't good enough (or perhaps let themselves get in the way of being successful), its that Ryan Pace didn't somehow predict things would turn out as they did.His choices aren't the reason things are the way they are it's the failure of those he choose to do the job required.
This is such bullshit. Take the Mitch pick out of the picture entirely if you want, he's built half a team in 6 years. You're barking up the wrong tree these days. Of course nobody can really explain without using hindsight why those choices weren't so bad at the time. Everyone's just forgotten that Deshaun Watson's medical history from Clemson was littered with massive red flags.
I'll address this here because I lost track of the old thread, but that promise Pace made...why is it so unconscionable that it hasn't been kept? For some reason that quote from his first ever press conference back in 2015 has been held against him ever since.Yeah, I don't even really fault him for "missing" on Mitch. It's fine, whatever. Beyond that, drafting the QB before hiring the coach just seems like a recipe for disaster.
Aside from the Saints there isn't one team in the NFL that's close to having a complete roster. Even the Chiefs and Steelers have position groups that are all stocked with back-up tier guys. Can you even name one Chiefs defender other than Frank Clark, Chris Jones and Tyrann Mathieu? This is such bullshit. Take the Mitch pick out of the picture entirely if you want, he's built half a team in 6 years.
Here is the thing, pace is very young, he made a few mistakes and I feel like he can learn from them, maybe he does need to be fired so he learns from this... or maybe not. maybe he should be given a 2nd chance. But he isn't going to be out of the league.
Floyd was still one of the better players available that draft year, alot of the best players available were at positions we had strengths at.
Every GM misses on QB.
Pace has made up for bad 1st rounders with great signings in later rounds and FA.
I think it Foles comes back he plays and I think the oline has improved a bit then again could it be because defenses fear trubiskys mobility ?
The biggest head scratchers were resigning trevathan and buster skrine signing. No one knew Leno would completely collapse after signing a fucking contract. Massie has actually played better since resigning....
Look back at 2006-2014 draft class
Kyle long (didnt last long but wasn't a bad pickup... )
Kyle fuller ballerr
Pat o'donnell punter
Charles Leno I mean..... Get paid fuck every bears fan amiright?!?
Matt forte retired too early but elite rb
Greg olsen(injured every year for like forever still a good te)
Devin hester hof
Alshon jeffrey(dropped off the earth will probably have a similar trajectory as jordan howard here on out)
Paces draft since 2015-2020
Eddie jackson elite safety
Roquan smith looks like an elite LB
Leonard floyd(he is going to play just as long as kyle long so yes he is here) solid starter for years
Eddie goldman if NT was more recognized he'd be one of the best.
Adrian amos long career underrated
Tarik cohen long career stop going out of fucking bounds.
Adam shaheen (will be a backup role specialist TE for a long time)
James daniels long career
Cody whitehair long career has been a pro bowler
Nick kwiatoski underrated should of been a bear.
Jordan howard journey rb
Bilal nichols will have a solid career
David Montgomery one of the best graded pff RBs... My favorite running style rb underrated as fk
Jaylon johnson looks to be a top CB for years to come
Darnell Mooney pretty sure this guy is gonna be a stud
Anthony miller(might be a stretch)
(Holding out on Cole kmet)
All of these players listed, drafted by pace have out done any other player drafted from 2006-2014 besides the ones listed above them.... Charles Leno and a punter and special teams return specialist are on the other list for fucks sakes. No respect to devin hester my favorite player in the last decade.
That's almost double in 3 less years.
FA pace wins as well but I'm too lazy to keep doing this....
Pace has been good and fucked up on QB head coach. I saw these picks as someone who kinda buys into hype or some sort of obsession into a player they're looking to be apart of this team at times(typically nothing that makes them better football players). He needs to calm down and look more into the details. I'd like to know who was really responsible for our off-season besides QB and HC and if it wasn't pace that guy needs to be our GM.
He said it was his philosophy. He said it was what successful teams have done. He's done it once during his tenure, and has only made the playoffs once. Meanwhile, the gold standard for this division (whether posters here want to think it or not) routinely drafts QBs even though they've been lucky with franchise QBs. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, one of those draft picks past the 100th overall beat a defense coached by St. Vic Fangio.I'll address this here because I lost track of the old thread, but that promise Pace made...why is it so unconscionable that it hasn't been kept? For some reason that quote from his first ever press conference back in 2015 has been held against him ever since.
But I'll tell ya, I cant find many instances past the hundredth overall pick where I would have rather had any quarterback taken past that point than what Pace selected. Conveniently I'm sure many people would like to fantasize about passing on Deiondre Hall or Jordan Morgan instead of Tarik Cohen or Jordan Howard.
But its not really what successful teams do. The last time the Saints drafted a quarterback was 2015. The Seahawks basically got a jump on UDFA drafting a quarterback in the seventh round in 2018, but before that the last time they used a draft selection at the position was Russell Wilson. The Steelers went five years without drafting a quarterback. Belichick is the closest you'll get to meeting this criteria yet even he doesn't draft a quarterback every year.He said it was his philosophy. Vic Fangio.
So, yeah - I think his words should be used against him.
His choices aren't the failure...just the people he chose???
Isn't that an extension of his choices???
Yes, but his choices seemed that of a inexperienced gm again him being young I expect him to learn from it, if we were talking about a 60 year old GM with a shit ton of experience I'd fire him mid season. But I've liked alot of things from pace. I think he can grow more. If you were to pick a HC from that year who would you of picked ? He looked at the success of HCs coming from the andy reid tree trusted in it and failed. Same with teams that have picked all these guys under bill to be a HC.
So let's take the least experienced one with the highest pick. I mean I can forgive him for Mahomes, but it felt like the entire world was telling him Watson.
Mitch trubisky was #1 on many expert panels first of all, pace kinda fell in on his character/potential. I would allow him to pick a QB again and if he failed he would definitely be blacklisted from GM positions.
So let's hire an inexperienced HC to pair with my inexperienced QB and instead of putting in the time and resources to build the offense around them...I dump all my resources into an All Pro Pass Rushers in an obvious "win now" move. He has a ton of experience in football, but there is so much more to being a HC or playcaller.
You might almost say the QB & HC were set up for failure.
What are you talking about ? We had a good RB good TE and #1 WR, role players at wr and a good scatback our oline was playing well and did so in 2018... It's so easy for people to forget.
This is professional football. Nothing happens all because of one person, but Ryan Pace holds a heavy hand.
He has the most responsibility yes. Doesn't mean it's directly his fault.
I could forgive him for missing on the QB if we didn't literally trade above himself to miss on the QB.
He wanted his guy this is what I'm talking about , when it comes to learning from his mistakes.
I could forgive him for missing on the HC if he did not blow all his draft capitol and cap space before that HC even coached his first game.
Hmm stretching a bit.
You set up a defense to win you games. You hired a "offensive guru" you gave him a respectable oline in 2018, decent weapons allen robinson trey gabriel (fit the role needed) tarik cohen and a work horse RB plus trey burton who played well for the most part in 2018 most of these players fell off in 2019+ allen robinson is the only good one to emerge imo. Even if I like 2018 tarik cohen I don't know what I watched in 2019-2020...
I could forgive him for being a wreckless gambler if it got this team more than a single winning season.
I mean he had to build the team to be a 12-4 8-8 and the ultimate 2020 record thats the undoing of a shit hc and a locker room that's falling apart.
And if the McCaskeys want to keep him around, I can forgive him for all this BS so long as he learns from it. Until then, I am still going to call him a ****ing idiot.
Do what you gotta do.
It's a salary cap league. The idea that every position can be a position of strength in unrealistic. New Orleans is remarkable in this regard because they are incredible in the draft, but you know who isn't too far behind them in draft hit-rate? Ryan Pace.
Current ownership never fires in the middle of a seasonI know they like to wait til after the season is over but how has that worked out for them? We started 5-1 and are now 5-6 after getting embarrassed again to our arch rivals on national television. Maybe they are waiting nagy to win out right and go 10-6 like lovie smith then fire him. I just dont know what it takes to get people canned for not being good at their jobs.
This gesture also doesn't go unnoticed among prospective candidates, by the way.Current ownership never fires in the middle of a season
