Why is the term "blitz" used in the NFL?

I'm sure this will be a fun thread but why does the NFL use a Nazi/ German term for probably the most used defensive tactic? How do the resident nazis on this board feel about this?
More precisely it's an offensive attacking tactic used by a defense. Ex. "Quinn couldn't blitz because of his lame foot and lack of bend on grass vs. turf.

How do we know the NFL doesn't predate the Germans?

On Chicago Bears forums the running joke is to say "Gremans".

As in "Was it over when the Gremans bombed Pearl Harbor?"
