That would be awesome if he’s our new left tackle and Jenkins can anchor down the right side. Either way I believe in these two rookies and I think our o-line is going to be a happy surprise this season!
Well we sure as hell are about due for at least one damn year where the offensive line isn't trash.

He wasn't a surprise to me. I even came up with a design for our two new tackles while I was playing around with Illustrator.

We'll fond out quickly if the hype and confidence of the oline is a reality or a complete joke.

I've hear nothing but glowing optimism about:

Whitehair at lg
Daniels at rg back from injury
Mustipher at c
Jenkins at tackle
Ifedi as a possible pro bowler
Bars as a proven swing guy
Now eiason as a big stud guard

Who's next?

Well if you want to hear constant whining and negativity then focus on @halftime's posts.

If you want to be good as a rookie you need to have an elite skill to fallback on while your other areas develop.

Borom has elite power. I would not be shocked if he played well early in his career because of that while his technique and feet develop

I don't think I looked at Borom's RAS before, but he tested well in most categories. Overall he rated 154 out of the last 1141 at OG. Not sure how that correlates at tackle. His arms are 33 1/8"

I'm including Jenkins here for comparison. Jenkins ranked 31 among the last 1129 tackles.

I like football players. RAS and other advanced metrics are great and useful, but impressed on the tape. Borom played in the best conference in CFB and he was dominant. I'm feeling very good about this OL draft.

And then he lost a lot of weight. I am pretty excited about him.

So basically best of both. (not THE best of course, but shit Borom was a late pick) & Jenkins a steal in the 2nd. Both have a mean side also - something Bears' OLs have been lacking since Olin stopped punching people in their stupid faces.

No matter how you cut it, it's a huge gamble.

If Jenkins isn't special, it's not a good move.

If he's a special player I'll stfu. If he's just an average RT, it wasn't worth it.
@halftime in any draft thread:
This draft class sucks unless it’s literally the best draft class in 2 decades, then I’ll shut up !

I have super low hopes because it's the Bears. We've gone thru this several times this century. Supposedly, our GMs find these gems in the draft that other GMs cannot see. Including giving up 2 picks for 1 player. Then everyone is surprised when it blows up in our face.

I feel the our fan base has lost touch with what a good o-line is. Like as long as the RB isn't getting hit in the backfield or the QB isn't getting a lineman dumped in his lap - it's a good line.

Get a grip

My understanding is he tested at 322 on his pro day. His tape reflects his 350 playing weight, but his RAS reflects the athleticism of the slimmer Borom.

There's a lot to be excited about. He was solid in pass pro even against teams like Alabama. Gave up no sacks or pressures against them while the rest of Mizzou looked overmatched.

Yes, so that means that he gave up very little pressure at 350 pounds and now he is much more athletic.

I watched tape on several games (Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Miss St). What stood out was how nimble he was for a big guy. There's plenty of examples of him pulling and getting out ahead of a run play. He moves well in space but he doesn't always find a body to block. Defenders get off run blocks too frequently, bouncing off his initial contact. I'd like to see him sustain blocks and move people. He can do it, but doesn't show it consistently.

In pass pro, the combo of his size and his feet made it difficult for anyone to get around him. He's fluid but seems top heavy to me at times. He doesn't always look graceful, but gets the job done. I didn't see speed guys bend around him. He got enough depth to push them past the QB. I didn't see bull rushers power through him. When he got pushed back, he had the balance and bulk to reanchor before he got pushed into the QB's drop.

Overall, I'd say that there's a lot of upside with Borom. If he can put on 10 lbs of muscle and refine his technique, he's got the potential to be a good starter. Probably not until next year but we'll see what he looks like in camp.

Yeah, this is a bad take. There's an in-between that also bodes well which is good to really good. Ya know, below special but better than average.

Even if he turned out to be an average LT but did his job to protect Fields then whatever. I don’t care what the Bears give up as long as they show they can play.
