I know enough that ya dont play not to lose...no matter what sport youre in..Hawks might get lucky though and pull this out

What I think you were being told in so many words, was that you have a better chance of exploiting a mistake from a pressing team by playing for countering a mistake.

Judging by the 3rd goal (the one that arguably sealed the game), that is exactly what happened here.

When a team is really pressing for a goal, they basically add in extra players in to the offensive zone (additional forecheckers basically) - the downside for a team doing that is they are more vulnerable in the neutral zone and in their own offensive end.

The Hawks have a lot of guys that can (and have) make the pass out of their zone to a guy in behind the defense... leading to odd man rushes -and then they got guys that can finish.

Anyway ... it is a style that has worked for them, and they have 2 championships to pretty much prove their theories on play -anyway ... it's all good. :)

That game could just as easily gone into OT and the Hawks could have very well lost in OT
It's not smart to let your foot off your opponents throat to protect a 1 goal lead. Its dangerous and could bite you in the ass no matter what sport your'e playing....It worked out today for them..They had luck on their side.. I was having flashbacks to that game they lost to St Louis where they played a similar style in the 3rd period..

But youre right. It all worked out and all is well

You and I were not watching the same game. As I said during the game, the Hawks had THREE 2-on-1 breaks after the 10-minute mark of the third period. They were not sitting back in a defensive shell. Perhaps their defensemen weren't as quick to pinch in the 3rd period, but that's standard for a 3rd-period lead. They did not get over-conservative, however. And that's how they scored the extra goal that put the game away.

The Wild had FOUR shots on goal in the final period. All of the possession metrics gave the Hawks at least a 60/40 possession advantage at even strength.

In Game 1 they did not control the play. Except for parts of the second period, they absolutely did for Game 2.

One did exactly that, cost the Hawks a goal and sat the rest of the game. I think Q has specific ideas on how he wants things done, you better do it his way or you'll be picking splinters out of your ass on the bench.

One thing you have to love about BearsBud, despite some of the smartest hockey posters on this website teaching him what was going on, he still holds steadfast on his theory.

Too bad youre not one of em

My "theory" as you call it, is a general theory that applies to all sports, not just hockey...This place would explode on Monday mornings after Lovie Smith would pull a similar stunt..He almost lost the Jets game, and others, for playing the exact strategy the Hawks did yesterday.

When you play not to lose, you usually lose

Well opinions based on personal or fan grouping assumptions aren't very worthwhile to appreciate.

People can be wrong in opinion and some values of their opinion may actually be worth listening to if they had factual evidence over proclamations. Some looks into how playing styles in sports, more NFL at least, don't confirm to what popular opinion presumes.

If I would have known that posting an observation about the beloved Blackhawks would have caused such a stir, I wouldnt have posted at all..I can see now that I caused many a tampon to start leaking. I promise from now on to post only compliments about the Hawks.. And if I were still working, I would hang my little Blackhawks sticker outside my cubicle so that everyone who passed by would think I'm a winner, like all the "smart" hockey posters (as PB so eloquently put it).

My apologies to all the prom queens that I offended. Have a nice day girls

Nah man, it was your unwillingness to see that your assertions may be flawed that started this whole thing. And then you resort to some shitty misogynistic jokes to try and save face.

You can post here all you want. I encourage you to do so. Just don't be surprised if people disagree with you when you're discussing a sport that you've admitted you're not as knowledgeable of. It's okay to be wrong on the Internet.
