Ballroom dancing on ice skates. The wife took over the remote last night and I got stuck watching it for an hour or two. At first I was going to bail out and crash early, but (other than the commentating) I found myself not dreading it. If anything I had a bit of admiration for the synchronization and the lifting/spins. Some of that shit seems pretty dangerous.

Then again, I can't shovel the driveway without falling down, so what the heck do I know.

So sorry

That ice sweeping competition is pretty cool. Some of those guys get that ice spic and span and slick as glass . . .

I know people that think skating and gymnastics are the only good Olympic sports. Yes, they are women, and they count in the ratings, and that is all NBC cares about.

No Women’s Beach Volleyball? IMHO, it’s the best thing on during the Olympics. Those women are great athletes, and an inspiration.

If it weren't such a pain in the dick to watch, I'd definitely be in. I might be weird but I've always liked the Winter Olympics more than Summer. That said NBC's coverage is so god awful and it isn't easy to watch (as far as I know) through other outlets so I'm just not bothering.

That and I despise the IOC.

I have to agree... idk why but the Winter Olympic coverage seems shitty.

It seems to be long stretches of pregame? postgame? random commentary?

Followed by events that I always feel like I've been dumped into the middle of, so idk what I'm watching or where it sits within the medal competition.

And the broadcast is always them throwing a jumble of things with no clear schedule for what you might see at what point over a 2-3 hour window.

I never feel like I can go "Ok I want to see this event and/or these competitors, so that will be on from X to Y"

Maybe that is because alot of stuff is in prelm/weed-out stage?

In contrast I felt I could just turn on the Summer Olympics and figure out pretty quickly what event, what athletes, was it for a medal, etc.

It's really an extension of why American TV is often so god awful. So much fucking commentary, the networks treat American viewers as if they were idiot children that have to have every fucking thing explained to them by the most anodyne possible personalities rather than just showing the fucking event.

I can't wait for NBC/CBS/ABC/Fox to die.

I can't say that I've ever been a big fan of Chris Berman, but when he did the game that Cal Ripken broke the streak (which, imo, is a worthless record) and the game became official, he just went silent. Ripken did the whole around the park thing, and Berman (for once) kept his fucking mouth shut and just let the story unfold without his commentary.

We need more of that. Especially in sports.

Yeah well prepare for more Tony Romo in the booth.... the trend is toward more talking heads, not less.
