Maddon said post game he had talked to Chapman Sunday morning about going in in the 7th.

Watching Baez tags...that guy has a gift.

I still don't like the Chapman move or the double switch. I know it "worked" because they won. Bad moves are bad moves, even when they work.

The Cubs were leading off with the 9 spot. So instead of double switching to start the inning they should have just brought Edwards in. If he struggles you can double switch at that point if you feel is really needed. They could have just thrown Stoup, Edwards, Montgomery, and Wood in that inning if they needed too.

At that point you can lead off with Schwarber. If he gets on pinch run with Almora. If Zobrist makes the last out double switch so Almora stays in bats 9th and plays left and Chapman to the the 5 hole. If Zobrist does not make the last out leave Chapman in the 9 spot, much less likely to come up.

I don't like the closer having to pitch to the entire lineup. Even if he gets through it, it means everyone has seen him. One of the benefits of being a closer is guys don't see you that often. In a long series having multiple looks at the same pitcher helps the hitter--generally.

Even if you had to bring go to chapman in the 7th, he basically tied his hands with the double switch. He locked himself into a spot where it made no sense to get Schwarber into the game until the 9th or the Cubs would have had to string a bunch of hits together.

They won so many will be ok with it. I think it was poorly managed. Schwarber was not used very well at home.

The hope is clear: Contreras turns the lineup over for your best hitters and gives you likely an equal chance at scoring run(s) than it would to have to use Schwarber (your only valuable hitter left) and burn him in that situation. Schwarber is insanely valuable; his presence on the bench also limits how quickly the Indians can go to Andrew Miller. What if the Indians tie the game and then their only remaining hitters are Coghlan and Almora?

Good and bad about this discussion....

Bad = whole discussion is about something that can only happen in a National league game

Good = while managerial decisions are minimized, Schwarber gets AB's in Amercian League games

Yeah, that's how they take it. "I can't believe Joe went with Chapman, that guy sucks".
All while insutling his entire bullpen twice. Nice work Maddon, good thing you wont need those guys help

They call it a team, genius. On this team in particular, they all pull for one another. You hear it constantly. All though you probably wouldn't...with your head being so far up your ass.

The Cubs relievers were holding hands singing Kum By Yah while Chapman was warming up and are ok with the snub.

Reportedly they all had a good nights sleep and are ready to go in game 6 if and when needed.

I'd buy this argument if the lead was say three or four but the tying run was at second base with no one out. That's the highest of leverage situations you can get, OF COURSE you're going to use your best pitcher. There is no "insulting" of pitching Chapman to save a one run game, even for eight outs. That SHOULD be the norm. As a fan of the game, I've been delighted AND surprised at the quickness in which people blamed Showalter for not pitching Britton then the praise we've seen given to Francona, Roberts, and Maddon for the aggressive use of best relievers.

The second Maddon insult was letting Chapman hit which says he would forgo the extra run instead of letting one of the bullpen pitchers pitch

Yeah, they're going to be upset that Joe left Chapman in to get three outs against the heart of their lineup.

I mean, sure they won an elimination game but they're going to be "hurt" that Joe said "I'm going to have my best reliever pitch 8 outs in a one-run game".

The shit for brains reference applies to all your posts

LOL...how does it feel to be exposed? You are completely useless and most everyone here knows it.

Why would someone continually expose himself to ridicule on a daily basis?

Why would that person keep coming back to a Forum where he is almost universally disliked?

Maybe it's because you call complete strangers foul names or maybe it's because you just can't get along with others....but mostly, it's because you make wildly moronic statements then get upset when you are called out on them.

Hey question his moves all you want from last night's game, bottom line is they won. No other arguments should be made. It worked; they won. Maddon made the right decision at the end of the day. Could he have done something that got a better result? Possibly. Does it matter at this point? No.

I'm just one of many....take off the rose colored glasses.

No one here has any discussions with you, for obvious reasons...they usually turn sour quickly.

Do you have ANY evidence to support that the Cubs and their players think like this? This belief is completely against the entire philosophy the team has had all year. But of course, Omletpants knows how the Cubs TRULY feel.

Obvious to anyone with a modicum of sense and experience. Not so much for you
