Speaking only for myself, I originally thought Fields was going to be a bust. Once he was a Bear, I put my pre-college opinion aside and said "ok, this is reality, let's see what he can do".

And while not a perfect QB (no one ever is), the actual talent I have seen from him has been better than any Bears quarterback I have seen going back to when I started watching in '93. He has some issues still, but he also has had absolute shit around him from a talent and coaching level, up until when he returned from injury and finally has some semblance of an offensive line (that center position though is going to make it hard for him to step up in the pocket with any consistency though), and he didn't have 2 legit starting caliber weapons until this year (Mooney is flaming out).

So, Fields has had to deal with a lot of issues that can result in a lack of consistency, but I still support the Bears building around him.

But if we were to draft Williams? I'd have a pit in my stomach for sure, but I would hope Williams is everything those wanting him say he is. I'm not like some of the asswipes here and in the fandom and root for his downfall because "he's not my guy". If he's a Bear, I want success for him.

But man, if Williams is drafted and struggles?

There's going to be a lot of pissed off "I told you so's" while the Caleb Williams cult, like the Rex Cult and Mitch Truthers before them, will be making all sorts of excuses for the same things they ripped on Justin Fields for, and that hypocrisy is going to get called out early and often.

So, if the Bears draft Caleb - I hope he works out. Not only for the Bears' sake - but also for the mental health of those who already are holding him up as some savior when he and Fields already have similar issues, with Caleb being smaller, slower, and not as big of an arm as Fields - not to mention questions of if he can handle the pressure mentally, something arguably Fields has done extremely well...
Bro this could have been a 2 sentence response. Wtf is ur deal? You make @Ares Look like a fucking limerick writer.

Bears fans embrace any QB who throws for a first down and then will won’t to draft his replacement when he takes his first sack.

You're giving a whole season? I'd give it like 6 games.
In today’s social media and media culture, I would expect questions on his ability the instant the offense ‘loses’ a 7 on 7 in OTA’s. Then, if he has a turnover or takes a bad sack in his debut, I would expect questions on if the Bears did the right thing moving on from Fields.

If you're throwing TDs I don't care what your makeup routine is. Norms shift over time, and watching football isn't a psychosexual experience for me.

Roughly 60% of the fanbase is still in on Fields - people would give him the benefit of the doubt but if Fields or Maye lit it up from the jump the pressure would be absurd.

Just fucking get Harbaugh/Greg Roman and run that offense to maximize Fields.

He would have his work cut out for him. He seems especially thin skinned so if he doesn’t light it up sooner than later, this city would eat him alive. I question his ability to lead and to handle adversity.

Conversely, if he performed, he would be embraced like few athletes ever have in Chicago. The bears are starved for a franchise QB so if he were the goods, it wouldn’t matter if he painted his nails, cried in mommy’s bosom, or whatever other emo thing he’s into.
If it comes down it I would rather have Maye.

Yes, for the first year. If he isn’t mahomes by the second we will start getting the he can’t read defense threads
That's because it doesn't even take a year to tell if a QB has IT or not. Things like pocket awareness and feeling the rush, quick release, throwing receivers open make themselves obvious early on. There are certain intangibles QBs either have or they don't, it doesn't take 3 years to wait and see. Like with Fields, his flaws coming out of college and rookie year were obvious and he still has them in year 3.

If Williams came here and showed traits that make QBs great and played well fans would embrace him.

I *probably* would too but I don’t love either choice tbh. I like Williams talent and attributes more, but maye has more intangibles and leadership and is very gifted as well. Jayden Daniels is probably my favorite QB in the draft right now but would not draft him in the top 5

A fingernail painting mama's boy that cries when he loses and thinks part ownership is really a thing. In your opinion would he be embraced here? I don't want the guy, but that is not the question here.
All he has to do is play like a franchise qb and all is forgiven. Hes young, give him a break. Im sure you were a dipshit around the same age.

Chicago eating players alive? This fan base doesn’t hold anyone accountable. Bears don’t even need PR the fans do it for them.

If he puts the ball in the endzone fans won't care if he looks like bozo.

Dipshit sure. Never considered painting my nails for TV. Also my daddy taught me, never brag when you win and never cry when you lose. This guy would be hard to root for. We'll for me. Really don't like this guys game strait up anyway.
