:yeah: thank you very much. I swear he thinks Z is just going to go straight and be good. The dudes fucked up to many times and its time to move on from him whether there is an upside in his play or not

Z is ALOT better player then Figgins. I also think its finacially smarter to have that contract end this year then rather having 9 mil of it sit on team for another year. I would rather have that extra 9 mil to throw at Cain and Hamels in 2013 :crazydance:

so let me get this straight if i offered you 17 million dollars for 2 years for your 18 million dollars in 1 year you wouldnt take it? Boy oh boy your math is horrible. You make money in the end and you get an extra year of production. i understand what you mean but what does it matter if the money is paid in one year or two if we make a million in the end and have more poduction come from it?

1 mil in baseball is like 10$ to us. Basically your saying its ok to take a worse player to save 1 mil? Z has alot better chance of making a difference then Figgins does for any team. Z did win 9 games last year still. Figgins hit ur weight as we discussed earlier

I like Figgins and I wouldnt go punching old ladies if they traded Zambrano for Figgins but I think you also have to consider that Figgins, on top of hitting below .200, has a game that has relied a lot on speed and the guy is approaching his mid 30s. Meanwhile, as has been pointed out, Zambrano is a pitcher. Zambrano has also lost something off of his fastball but that doesn't automatically mean that someone can't be a good pitcher.

When a pitcher gets to that point.. He has to mentally figure out how to change his game..

Mental things aren't Zambrano's strong suit.

It's not all mental. Sometimes pitchers become better at spotting their pitches. Also, it's not like he cant throw his other pitches well.

Z did cut down his walk rate a bit this past season. Strikeouts were down though and that's probably the velocity thing. He was doing fairly well in Venezuela before he almost got killed by that line drive. I'd like to see them give Z a few starts in spring training just to see what happens.

If you can spot a fastball in the low 90s and have a quality sinker, you can still be an excellent pitcher. And actually, a sinker pitcher who has high strikeout numbers is almost counter intuitive. The maximization of a sinker is to get guys to ground out. I think ground ball outs and double plays are also indicators for Zambrano's evolution as a pitcher. If he's had a quality sinker this whole time, it's almost been a waste to have high strike out numbers.

Normally, Im wary of listening too closely to players on underachieving teams. But Kerry Wood is a little different at this stage of his career. I'll put a little more weight in this than I do when someone says that Quade should be manager because the team decided to show up the last month of the season.

And I think others should be more flexible to Zambrano staying upon hearing this.
