Or have we realized all he has done was take advantage of a stupid Panthers owner?
Besides the Young trade I don’t understand why anyone would be “in” on him. His trades have been bad besides two, his FA picks up are non existent and his draft record is Emery likeI am still in on him...if he makes the move to a good offensive HC this offseason and goes all in on OL in FA and the draft. Keep Flus or don't acquire 3 quality OL thru FA or draft at least 2 OL with the 1,2,2 then Im out.
That's it, nothing more. He's 100% responsible for this mess, and the downward direction the #1 pick in the draft is heading.Or have we realized all he has done was take advantage of a stupid Panthers owner?
When?Still like him. Not without his warts.
But he has built a team that - talent-wise - can compete for the playoffs.
In terms of players, he also moves on from mistakes quickly.
That's what you want from a GM.
However, if he retains Eberflus beyond this season, I will be out on him.
I am giving Poles the benefit of the doubt in that Eberflus was interviewed before Poles was, and there are enough red flags that, despite what has been said publicly about their relationship, I think ownership told Poles who to hire.
Poles can make the argument this offseason that Eberflus lost the team; an argument he couldn't make last season, where it was very much the opposite.
Honestly? It's entirely possible that Poles was out on Flus last season but ownership made Poles keep Flus another year.
I give Poles another head coach. But I want Warren involved as a buffer between ownership and Poles. Warren needs to tell ownership to butt out.
Sweat trade was also a win. Drafted Brisker, Gordon, Stevenson, Smith, Dexter. Not a single Kevin White or Shea McClellin pick closest is Velus , but that's a 3rd not 1st, trading a 2nd for Claypool is up there as well. He hasn't really gone big in FA other than Edmunds. FA is usually fools gold, so I don't mind avoiding it for the most part. His dumpster diving for OL in FA has been very poor. Far from the worst GM the Bears have had.Besides the Young trade I don’t understand why anyone would be “in” on him. The problem is those are the premier positions and the foundations of the roster. They should have been ADDRESSED FIRST!Think it was obvious going into this season we were probably one more offseason away. Expect OL and another pass rusher to be addressed.

It's better to have Caleb Williams sitting back there in a clean pocket waiting for a scrub WR to get open than having him destroyed before he can hit a stud WR who was open.
It's better to have a stud OLB or DE get to the opposing QB before he can hit an open WR on a blown coverage by a bad secondary than it is to have the QB sitting back there to eventually find the open receiver on a good secondary because there was no pressure. The good QBs will do it.
Everything is backwards with this organization. It's fucking bullshit and they never learn.

Im gonna ask the same question i did when after maybe 4 or so years of Ryan Pace. From best to worst, how many Bears players can you name before you get to a guy drafted by the GM?
The foundation of this team is inherited players and guys he traded for. The Panthers trade was extremely lucky and you cant knock him for that but i think people love to give him a little too much credit for something even the average fan was saying they should do. When you get a massive haul in a trade and on top of that the 1st you receive ends up being the #1 overall that gives you the "generational" QB who makes everyone around him better, i think you chop a year off what people would consider enough time to rebuild.
The excuses are done. He's the guy who decided to build the secondary before the DL. He put more emphasis on WR than OL. QB struggles because of the pressure? Blame Poles. Depth sucks? Whos to blame? Coach is trash? I think he was forced on Poles but the shills here are adamant it was Poles guy, so take the heat.
Maybe when we stop overrating every player because the Bears drafted them, we'll get more honest opinions on the GM.
Never loved Poles, but I'm generally ok with him. The "cooking" stuff is a bit overblown though... there seems to be a little too much love going his way. He's had big misses and some big hits. We're all pretty aware of what those are on both sides. That said, fixing this shit show and working with our beloved McCaskey's is what it is... he has one arm behind his back a lot of the time. I don't think any other random GM hire can be a whole lot better.
