Keeping CTEberflus is just misguided. It is generally accepted that ME got a 5 yr contract, and nothing short of a meltdown of coaching would result in him not getting year 4. Well, he has gone Chernobyl.

There is no way the McCaskey's were willing to write checks for 3 years for ME to sit at the beach. Firing him was never the GMs option.

Only complete national embarrassment has even made a discussion.

Well all we can go on is what we have been told. Every single report says this was solely a Poles decision.

Not seen that once. It was reported Poles wanted to pull the trigger weeks ago but even up to this week he still was not allowed, thankfully Flus provided the requisite national audience meltdown.

While this is true Poles accepted his position as the guy to take the blame for the McCaskeys.

I blame the drafts/FA on Flus being the McCaskey HC appointed to watch over the rookie GM. I don't know what goes on in this organization but the same things have been wrong for way too long to be anything but McCaskey meddling.

It still comes down to they were hired to fall on the sword and stay silent. As long as they do we have to at least temper what we believe by what we are told.

The contract length didn’t matter to the CEO. Flus’s contract is rumored to be one of the lowest in the league. It’s a drop in the bucket for a team worth over 6 billion dollars.

It was Poles decision because he lacks knowledge in coaching, they are friends, and they share the same agent.

This but I think he was referring to the end of last season when it's been said that Poles stood up for Flus against Warren and Cunningham. That said and even if true, George may have helped moved that needle.

Does anyone believe the McCaskey's were willing to play 3 yrs of Flus on a beach? There is no way he was given freedom to fire Flus last offseason.

That 6 billion is imaginary money until they sell. The poorest owners in the NFL that had never paid more than 1 yr of dead contract weren't cutting bait 2 years into a 5 yr contract.

Poles didnt fire Flus after last year because it would have been a snake move to hire a guy, tear the whole roster around him and then fire him because he couldnt win more games with a depleted roster.

The timing just sucked because they had the No 1 pick and were drafting a new QB. Hence why I really think Flus was likely told he would get 2 years with Caleb but the losses and his response to them just became too much to overcome.

I will say that hiring a HC with no previous HC experience and then tearing down their roster the first year makes it difficult to evaluate their performance. Eberflus probably would have sucked even with the veterans that were shipped out, but a built in excuse was created for him

That's a dumb reason to keep someone. It would be different if Flus showed the capacity to actually coach guys up and have the team play above it's talent, but he didn't. 3-19 on the road, 5-19 in one score games shows that he actively held the team back. The fact they had the #1 pick with someone as good as Williams coming out with even another top 10 pick was absolutely the best reason to cut him loose and reset the clock. Keeping him was peak Bears futility. Anyone that was watching saw this result coming a mile away.

7-9 last year was pretty much at or above their talent IMO.

Not when you consider the competition.

bryce young, josh dobbs, a recovering kyler murray, and taylor heinecke were four wins down the stretch that essentially saved his job.

He also defeat Aidan O connell and Sam Howell

It wasn't losses by a depleted roster last year that made most want to fire Flus. Losing 4 games due to his ineptitude that was a 68,000,000 to 1 shot was why it was obvious he would never even achieve being just a guy let alone the guy.

Yes he beat teams at similar talent levels and lost to teams with far superior talent.

He had one of the worst 4th quarter QBs who contributed to a lot of the losses.

What made this year different is Caleb balled out at the end of games so it removed any doubt as to whether it was mostly coaching failures.

If Fields was as good in the 4th as Caleb has been then Flus probably does get fired last year.
