When it comes to finances I always go conservative. Chances are that yeah, we could live off a lot more than that especially with decent investments and good money management (which we'd probably do), but at the base of the base levels, 10M should support my wife and I for the rest of our life with 83k each assuming no investing or a 0 return. Given how my wife's job has been treating her, If she never had to work again she'd be a happy woman.

Even if you have lots of money, not effectively investing it is a sin. Worst case you have more than you need, best case you set up a foundation and help others.

Long term, the notion that the stock market will rise is a virtually certainty. Look at the history from before the 1929 crash and you will see that no amount of economic terror will submerge it. Those that never got back in after the late 2000s crash lost out on the largest revival in the history of the world.

This is exactly why you hire a money manager and let him worry about it cause the average person has no clue
