If the Rangers were willing to eat some salary, a Michael Young deal "could be made" with the Cubs. As we heard this week, the Cubs probably can't afford to take on Young's contract, but, despite his defensive shortcomings, he would make some sense for Chicago at second base.
Cafardo's Latest: Young, Pedro, Red Sox, Hatteberg: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

MLBTR said that last week that Young added the Cubs and Phillies as teams he'd approve a trade to beyond the 8 teams not covered by his No-Trade Clause: Rockies, Angels, Dodgers, Padres, Cardinals, Twins, Yankees, and Astros.

This would be great. I truly think this would make them a 90 win team. Silva would have to be part of deal to make money work. I hope this really does happen

I didn't think to read it any other way.

I thought that because Young has the high salary, so I didn't see how we'd be sending them cash, lol.

I wouldnt hate this deal, not in the least his contract is huge but if we send silva it will help offset it a little. I will keep an eye on this.

No way does this make us a 90 win team. But it would improve us. I would be for something based around Silva and DeWitt, although I would like to see DeWitt used as a utility guy. But I think I'd be okay with trading him for Michael Young. The only problem is that we would be paying him 16 million for the next 3 years. He's already 34. I really don't like the sound of that. But it depends how much money they throw in.

I agree, but I don't like DeWitt even as a utility.

We do have flexibility in the coming years though, so I guess what matters most is how much they pay us this year.

Silva is in no way our ace. He's probably not even going to end up in our rotation.

The Cubs really don't have an ace. They have number 2 guys, Demp, Z and Garza. But Z could take the ace spot this year. He's getting a lot of media attention this year. Not by Cub writers, Olney and Heyman tweeted about him today.

What were the tweets? I don't know their twitter usernames.
