Via Phil Rogers.

Scouts says #Rangers are eyeing Andrew Cashner in any Michael Young talk #Cubs. Feliz happy as starter could put Carlos Marmol in play.

Not worth it at all in that case.

Agreed. As nice as it would be to pick someone up as versatile as Young, our weakness lies more within our last rotation spot and out middle relief. To get rid of Cashner, in what would be in addition to several other prospects, I'm assuming, wouldn't be that great of a deal.

And then Marmol being potentially in the mix is even worse.

BTW Phil Rogers doesn't see it happening, just what Texas wants.

You make way more money than CO for sure, so his comment was pretty dumb. That and he just likes to be an ass I guess.

Or Jackson for that matter.

I'd give DeWitt, Silva, and Jay Jackson though, but not sure if I am over or under bidding here.

If they are under desperation to move him.. Its probably a fair offer..

If they aren't its under.

I think that's a pretty fair deal. You could even toss in another prospect, too, I think. But all of this is assuming Texas picks up some of his salary if they're trying to move him for that purpose. Because his 5 yr/ 80 mil is just slightly out of the Cubs price range right now.

That's why I threw in Silva, so Texas wouldn't have to pay as much, and to free up room for Cashner. :)

The Rangers have no need for young and should trade him for anything before his stock falls. Like everybody mentioned, there's no way in hell I would trade Cash or Marmol. The Rangers need pitching and I know Silva isn't the name most people want to hear but I don't think he'll be a bad 4th-5th starter. I think JJ will be an effective RP with play time. Finally, I don't hate DeWitt but I think he's more of a utility guy. Also, Barney can move right into the role and I think he will do one hell of a job and a better job.

However, the Cubs will still need most of the contract covered even with Silva in the trade. The Cubs can also add Grabow in the deal. I don't think the Cubs need him and Maine can take his spot. I think Maine will do a better job.

So...the trade:

Cubs get:
Michael Young (48M)

Rangers get:
Carlos Silva (6M, 5.5 but M's)
John Grabow (4.8M)
Blake DeWitt (Min, not arb elgible yet. Next year)
Jay Jackson (___)

2011:
10.8M, compare to Youngs 16M.

Rangers will still be owe 37.8M.

Rangers maybe pay 24M

2011:
contracts of players
2012:
12M
2013:
12M

Cubs pay rest of contract which is 13M. If that's right, that wouldn't be bad for 3 years of Young. But would Rangers do that? Probably not.

Rangers could do that. I don't see why not. Nobody's going to give them what they want.

Also could replace Jackson with (or simply add) Carpenter or someone (even though I want to see Carpenter vs. Carpenter in a Cubs-Cards game.
