I agree that you shouldn't judge the book by its cover. Or, you will miss reading the awesome book.

Bump.

Since Dune and Ender's Game are getting some love, I'll throw out a few more sci fi reads...Hyperion, Snow Crash, Necromancer, Foundation and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I'm reading Slaughterhouse Five for the first time right now. Recently read Ready Player One which was kind of fun. 14 by Peter Clines was pretty good too.

Favorite all time? Probably Count of Monte Cristo. A thousand pages of delicious revenge. Also a big fan of The Fountainhead, because fuck conformity and settling for mediocrity.

All pretty main stream stuff. My picks are not literary works of art, just a fun read.

Fucking loved Hyperion. Will not/would not read the sequel.

About halfway through Seven Eves by Neal Stephenson. Good- not sure it's as good as the hype- but plenty of story to go.

Ugh, Slaughterhouse Five. That book is so devastating. Shit puts me in a funk for weeks. Only really sci fi on the surface.

Well, holy fuck. Someone else around here appreciates Tom Robbins? Good on you.

Another Roadside Attraction, Jitterbug Perfume, and Skinny Legs and All are equally as good.

I read the first one, which was an amazing piece of character development. I also read the second one. It was good, but not as good as the first. I don't think I'll be reading #3 and #4. I believe it's not really a continuation of the original storyline, just set in the same universe...but could be wrong.

Added to my hold list at the library.

On a sort of related note, if you're into reading and have a Kindle you should check out what your library has in terms of digital offerings. Mine uses a service called Overdrive. Basically you find what you want / check it out or put on hold if it's not available yet, then you login to Amazon and you can deliver it directly to your Kindle. After a few weeks it "expires" and gets back into the waiting queue at the library. There are also some other options for non Kindle readers I believe as well, but not 100% sure how that works. I still buy stuff that they are missing, but it's definitely saved me some cash on the things they do have that I want to read. They have audio books as well if that's your thing. I can't personally listen to them because my mind starts drifting really quickly for whatever reason.

The Great Gatsby

and Anything by Chuck Palahniuk, great author can't pick 1 book specifically but he did write Fight Club.

I enjoyed Choke probably the most. All of his books are interesting.

I like the Alex Cross series by James Patterson. I'm always so disappointed in the movies.
