Yeah well meeting new people is hard for me.

I'm a very shy person. Too late to take back my earlier comment but whatever.

If it's repetition at the basis of this, wouldn't at this point you simply just brush it off as repetition?

I graduated in 2000, and since I've already started running into former students of mine at the bar, I'm considering myself one of the older posters on CCS....

My closest (I don't think 29 year old people should refer to others as their 'best' friends - just my thing, I could be wrong) friend is from high school. Actually, my closest friend and I have been friends since little league when we were 9. Of the other friends I hang out with they are all from high school. Not necessarily that I hung out with them in high school, but we've become better friends since.

Of my closest friends in high school, one got heavily into drugs and is probably living in a ditch somewhere. One teaches in Michigan, the other is a doctor in Miami, and the last one is a Senior VP for some tech firm out in California. Those were my closest friends, and obviously we all took somewhat different paths.

It just happens. Nothing to regret. You stay up on what they are doing through facebook, but other than that, it's not exactly like I can just get on a plane to Miami and inconvenience my buddy who works a hectic schedule in a hospital.

Scary how much we have in common being a fellow graduate of the class of double zero and a teacher with similar experiences that makes oneself really old. Having to guess at the timeframe I would also guess you are a fellow high school teacher, but I could be wrong.

For myself I really only two friends that I had during my time in high school that I still stay in real contact with. One of them kind of doesn't count because I didn't really hang with him much during high school but met up with him college a few years down the road. When I got married my best man was my oldest friend who I was friends with in high school, a friend I had in college, and my younger brother. I don't see many of the people I went to high school with anymore having moved around a fair bit, but I don't actively try to avoid them either carrying no ill will towards any of them.

Hell, during a 2nd intermission of a Hawks game this past season a girl just walked up to me on the concourse & started talking.

Despite her having a boyfriend. Asking me if I was single.

At first I thought she was hooking me up with one of her friends.

Just started talking about stuff & she noticed my face being red & sweaty.

Too damn shy to ever get a girlfriend.

You mind me asking what subject you teach? I teach social studies.
My undergraduate work was in Social Studies. I couldn't find a job so I went back and got my masters' degree in Special Education. I taught for three years Special Education math. I was riffed this past year, and am still searching for a teaching position.

Sorry to hear that. It is really tough to find a social studies position. I was real lucky to land a junior high gig right after graduating. I got a job three years ago at the high school I did my student teaching, and hopefully be getting tenure at the end of this year. I wish you luck in the job hunting. It is a rough time to be a teacher.

What are you going to grad school for EYT?

I'm looking to do something Theology related.

Ideally something with Biblical languages. But I've also thought about doing systematic Theology (ethics of the Bible and stuff).

So unless I wanted to go to seminary (which, as of right now, I don't), I'd be almost limited to teaching. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think I could be a decent professor, but hearing that it's tough to find a job really worries me.

Maybe I'll just work at Chick-fil-A until I'm ready to retire.

:shifty:
