My apologies... the "TBA" part of my thread was for the broadcasting Network. Guess adding the starting pitchers work too!

Cards were somthing like 15-14 in September and I don't think they won a game at the beginning of October. This is by definition the meaning of mediocre.

By no means do I think this will be a lark but the Cards peaked in June and the Cubs are peaking right now. I feared the Pirates a lot more than the Cards at this point. We threw everything at the Bucs and they still kept their WC lead on us even though it did get close at the end.

On 25 June the Cards were 25 games over .500 and had an 8 game lead on the Pirates adn 9.5 on the Cubs. They had just beaten the Cubs and looked unstoppable. The rest of the year they were 13 games over .500, good but not that impressive. The Cubs, on the other hand, went 25 games over .500 in the period after that loss. We gained 6.5 games during that period. The only team close to being that hot this year were the Pirates, and they just lost to us.

So lets see how this plays out. St. Louis is good, very good, but having the best record in baseball doesn't mean squat at this time of the year. St. Louis knows this, they have been the low man in the playoffs and own the WS. This isn't 2008 and this is a different Cubs team.

Cards mediocre hmmmm, ok. I look forward to a good series but the Cards can turn it on when they need to.

That's why I didn't say it would be a lark. And you didn't read my post did you. Read the whole thing. I said their record in September was mediocre. I also said that they are a good, very good team. Very good teams look mediocre when they are slumping and unstoppable when they are winning it all. The Cubs looked mediocre at the beginning of the season. They don't look that way right now.

What I did say was that the team that is hot at the right time tends to win it all. Right now the Cubs are the hottest team in baseball. We have won 9 straight and beat the team with the second best record in baseball. St. Louis is dangerous, but not overpowering. Can the Cards get hot? Sure, they can. They have before. But the Cubs have been playing the best baseball in the Majors and they haven't slowed down. Anything can happen in these things.

Current Cubs stats vs Lackey past five years

Coghlan - 8 for 17 (1 2B), 1SO
Jackson - 5-16 (2 2B)
Rizzo - 1 for 12 (2HBP, 2SO)
Soler - 4 for 8 (3 2B, 1BB, 0SO)
Castro - 3 for 12
Ross - 0AB
Bryant - 2 for 9 (5SO)
Russell - 2 for 7 (2SO)
Baez - 0 for 8 (4SO)
LaStella - 2 for 3

Will Joe go to Coghlan at 2B to get Soler in there?

Fowler - CF
Schwarber - LF
Bryant - 3B
Rizzo - 1B
Castro - 2B OR Soler - RF
Coghlan - RF / 2B
Russell - SS
Ross - C
Lester - P

Cards about to run into a buzz saw. Too long a lay off and they are far from the team they were a little earlier in the season. Too many injuries. And we're rolling right now. I'll take Lester vs Lackey any day of the week.

Lackey's had a great career but the guy is like 37 years old and he doesn't want any of Fowler/Schwarber/Rizzo/Bryant.

Good Night, St. Louis. It won't be long before we choke you out like we did Pittsburgh.

I think this series goes five games. Cubs winning game five. I don't see us sweeping them, or them sweeping us. Going to be a very exciting, tough series. Love the dead Cardinal, my wife and I were laughing. Brutal, but funny.
