Some notes for today's game:
- Wacha has a 6.86 ERA against the Cubs this season, Arrieta's is 2.42
- of the regulars only Heyward has hit Arrieta well (.333) over a decent sample size while Castro and Rizzo have hit Wacha very well (.455 each) with Soler also hitting him well over a small sample size. Schwarber has never faced him.
- the wind is supposed to blowing out at Wrigley at a decent clip at game time. With Arrieta not allowing much hard contact and the Cubs having more power to begin with this looks like an advantage. It also looks good for Rizzo who sees the ball well agáinst Wacha and Kris Bryant who could use an advantage to break out.
- Maddon has surprised before but you have to figure this will be the usual lineup in the infield with Soler in RF and Schwarber in LF right? Or does he go Jackson in LF because Schwarber has never faced him before? Also it wouldn't shock me to see David Ross at C instead of Montero who has hit quite poorly (.133) against Wacha in a decent sample síze. Maddon might just want Ross' arm to prevent runners from trying to steal on Arrieta. Considering Ross won't hit either that may be overthinking it.
I think Rizzo, Castro and maybe Soler will be the keys tonight with Bryant finally breaking out of his slump. I think they should work the count on Wacha early as opposed to swinging aggressively. The hits will come, especially as his pitch count increases. Arrieta needs to be himself. Hopefully the wildness of Wednesday night is a thíng of the past.
