No matter what Rundblad did or didn't do -the one thing he didn't do is run into Crawford and take him out of a play where a 2-0 did not initially even generate (I think) a SoG - until the puck was put back out in front with Crawford left unable to get back to the net because .... well.... Daley ...

That turned out to be the game right there, score-wise. It was even worse because it was a blocked shot that created that 2-0 in the first place .... discipline :/

Edited: Panarin and what HW said - why am I not surprised that some guys have opinions that are not particularly based upon a dispassionate view of hockey as a whole?

Nothing I saw in those video highlights indicated anything other than a guy with a pretty wicked shot with a super quick release., with some pretty damned good wheels. I am going to enjoy this.

What I saw tonight (forget the other day although that sorta counts as well -as it was virtually a regular season line up) -was a guy with some pretty good anticipation as well - watch where Panarin comes from in order to get in position to score.

So....you were ok with Hjall getting turnstyled by Kreider...or when Nash picked his pocket? Or any of Keith's give aways - simply because they didn't end in the back of the net? Or ok with Keith going off the ice when a 3 on 2 was developing...leaving Daley to try to stop the play in a matter of seconds of hopping on the ice?

There are things Panarin is going to have to learn as well. He made some high risk plays at his own blue line that a bounce here and there, the puck is going the other way.

I've got a whole lotta faith that Keith and Hjalmarsson will be just fine over the course of the season. I've got no such faith in Daley yet.

I think Daley will be fine. I think too much is put on the fact that he was part of the return for Sharp. Dude will quietly give you 10-15 goals, and will be one of the D-men blocking shots (which barely any D-man did last night--pucks were getting to 50 pretty easily) along with Hammer.
One game, and many people quick to assess if there may be negative trends.
Keith had a pedestrian night. Good thing the Rags were mostly pedestrian too, or that game would've been a blowout.
Another tough NY team in on Saturday. Let's see if the Hawks can pull out a solid W.

Certainly not writing off Daley by any means. It's just disconcerting when you heard the issue with Daley was related to his defensive play, and then he has some large defensive miscues in his first game with the team. But there's a reason why the Hawks have turned 2, 4, and 7 into excellent defensive players and why Oduya played the best hockey of his career while in Chicago, and I'm fairly certain the coaching staff is a substantial reason for it. Let them get work with Daley and we'll see how he is in the postseason, when the Hawks will really need him.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
The only major outliers of the game for me were Runblad Runbladding (are we surprised?) and Daley's Benny Hill impersionation. Everything else is fixible.

At this point I don't think TVR should be forced to carry Daley on D. I wouldn't be surprised in a few games if they were separated. As for Runblad, the real question is when Q/Stan are going to realize that he should be below Deron Quint on the depth chart.

Not too dissapointed overall though. Crawford looked as solid as we could expect even when his own D was trying to mount him and came up huge in some instances. PP looked mobile for the 1st time in a long time. 4th line looked good in their role but the 3rd was weak. The loss sucked but if there were real problems the team wouldn't have lost by a mere goal.

BTW, all four home teams lost last night - 3-1, 5-1, 5-1 in addition to our 3-2 loss.

For those of you that were there, how was the pre-ceremony rave that broke out at the UC?

He's played 15min on this team - and was paired with a 24yr old defenceman that's played 31 total professional games in his life.
