I didn't think Carbomb looked too bad last night... when he wasn't on the top line.
Agreed, in the post game interview he explained it as any line with Saad on it is going to a dangerous one, but that doesn't make any sense to me. Our fourth line has been great all year, and Carcillo skating with Toews and Hossa does not compute. Guy lost a few board battles, seemed baffled at the blue line entry with those two and does not have the half offensive sense Saad does. Carcillo floating around the dots and slot area does nothing for me, not with man child sitting on the fourth line. Flame me and say what you will, but I cannot shake the image of Carbomb being one of the biggest hacks in the league, his 5.8 million penalty minutes in 324 career games would fit in well with Columbus.
It seems no matter what the team is doing, if we've won our previous 47, line juggling will occur if we don't have the lead. You can argue it has worked since we haven't lost, but it hasn't produced any goals. Not going to complain about him juggling up 2 lines, as much as I want to, there is no reason to complain sitting where we are.
Carcillo may not be as talented as Saad... but he brings a much different element to that line. He's a very good forechecker. He's responsible defensively. He doesn't play out of his role - and he know's what he's there to do. This is the best thing he brings to that line. He gets the puck to Hossa/Toews...and puck supports/gets to the net. He finishes every hit and makes it very uncomfortable for defenceman. There was a definite jump in Hossa's step when Carcillo was on that line. I like Hossa a lot, but people need to realize, that he is a bit of a pimadonna (not in a bad way)...but like most veteran stars...there are things he likes/wants. A left handed centerman, play his off wing, get him the puck. Not that Carcillo is better than Saad - but Hossa likes the puck on his stick as much as possible. He like the possession game. It's why last year Kane/Hossa/Carcillo played well together. Carcillo knows who he's playing with...which is a very good thing. His teammates love him. Even though last year for the 30gms he played on the "second line"...he played 12min a game. I expect vs STL...that both Carcillo and Saad will see time with Toews/Hossa. Knowing how STL like to run people...carbomb will be returning the favor to the likes of Pietriangelo...Shattenkirk. I think people just need to let this play out
Kane/Hossa/Carcillo? Is that a typo? I personally don't think that any ideal line includes Kane and Hossa. They both need to have the puck on their stick to be most effective. Plus they are both right wings. Carcillo does not have the near the skill Saad does. Saad complements Toews and Hossa and goes to the net and dirty areas as well. And he is only 20. On a side note, Carcillo actually got away with a definite charge on the one check behind the net. He took a run at the guy well after he had passed the puck. He was lucky and could have easily hurt the team with a penalty in that situation just as Saad did with his penalties.
Responsible and Carcillo dont belong in the same sentence. And yes he knows his job is to take dumb penalties.

In what 4 games? give it time.
Were Saad's 2 offensive zone penalties dumb? Or acceptable..because it was him?

Amazing how some can find a reason to complain regardless of anything................
Will the world end when they finally lose a game in regulation?
Shaw suspended once, Keith once, Kane and Sharp don't make it a habit.
Carcillo on the other hand was suspended 2 times his first year with the hawks. Took several dumb penalties including the one where he injured himself.
Do they ever look good enough for you?
Shaw hasnt played a full season, and already once. In the playoffs, nonetheless.
Keith may have had only 1 suspension...but you can find several times him retaliating (Cooke hit)
Yes, Carcillo walks and crosses the line at times. But thats not always a bad thing. And again...if Toews and Hossa didn't want him on their line - he wouldn't be.
I think they look good, but there's always room for improvement and the team seems to think the same. The moment they stop looking to improve is when things will start to go south.
