Ton, one thing that you fail to realize or at the very least fail to mention is that back in the

day when some of these players were being assembled we had to overpay to get some talent here in the first place. Why the hell else would a player want to come here even three years ago unless we got them in the draft?

So, if you understand that and you were to agree that the Huet and offer fiascos were not directly related to Tallon then your whole logic to get to your opinion is off kilt. Tallon, while not perfect, sure seemed to perfect his game once give the purse strings and control to run/ create this team.
Buff, Bolland, Campbell, and Sopel were overpaid because we had no talent? I never knew...

I didn't fail to realize anything, I mentioned it right here:

Campbell, Buff, Bolland, Sopel, all are slightly overpaid. Khabby, Havlat, Aucoin... granted those were when nobody wanted to play for Chicago so I'll skip that portion.

It's not as if I dislike Tallon, but he was not very good at handing out contracts, I thought this was common knowledge. His eye for talent was second to none, which is why I'd like both Stan and Dale as a team. I've given him the benefit of the doubt for the first portion of his career, but that wasn't the only time he was handing out a lot of $$.

My logic is perfectly fine, Tallon was a great GM but he had some faults, one of them was handing out hefty contracts. I don't blame him for Huet, but there are several other players out there, such as Bolland at $3.6 mil, that should have been avoided.

Even when Campbell was signed, it was said he actually wanted to come here, which was why it was such a great moment... but we still overpaid for him.

The bottom line is, Tallon will be seen as a success in my eyes during his tenure in Chicago. I think that's all that really matters, and when Rocky looks back, he will know he messed up... but I don't think it will be because Stan will ruin the team, more of the fact that our front office might have been the best in the NHL before Dale left. Now, it just looks... empty.

Stan, Dudley, and Dale, I didn't want to see any of them leave. Its too bad.

What I think you fail to realize as these players, OTHER than Sopel, were going to get larger offers. Bolland, Buff, and Campbell---whom actually did have other offers. So either Tallon was going to slightly over pay them, or he was going to be ready to replace them through depth and or another trade. Risky business when you already have the character and chemistry going forward amongst the "team" which was already mostly assembled.

Hawks were extremely weak at Center past Bolland. With his flashes and talent shown where exactly was the replacement coming from at a lower price, without risking the talent? There was none, so unless there was another great trade, we'd be once again weak at Center.

Buff over paid? Maybe slightly but where was the depth to replace him had he decided to take an offer? He's more than shown what he's capable of in both playoff years. We could be playing golf right now if not for him this year. Over paid? On who's club? One that's already out of the playoffs?

Sopel I will give you BUT he played extremely well and was going to be less than both Barker and Wiz. I think the fear of depth scared the Hawks, as it did when they were "scrambling" to pick up a 5ht-6th Dman before they originally signed Sopel. Who again in that first year filled in very nicely and got him the extension. Bringing in something this team needed dearly, EXPERIENCE. To work with a still young D core in Keith and Seabrook.

Campbell earned is salary. He was a true UFA, just like Hossa. Had they the knowledge of the Hossa type contract at that time I'm sure none of us would dislike his contract because it would have been front end loaded. You can not credit Stan for Hossa's contract as he copied the Redwings. They were the first that I know of to enter a front end loaded contract in the NHL long term. Tallon, Bowman, Mcdonough, who'm ever copied them.

Dale Drafted this team. Smith may have on his resume Keith and Seabrook but it's clear by Keiths comments above it was DALE who sought them out. He's responsible for the ENTIRE core other than Hossa and Huet.

I agree with you it's a shame you have to give up Dudley or Tallon but to say Stan is a replacement for either, or is as valuable as either is quite the stretch. Especially since he's been the financial guy.

It is what it is. Stan Bowman is the GM of this team. Sucks and I'm sure will be trial by community in mgmt when the draft and rough decisions start coming. Lets hope they don't **** it up.

The only thing that's ever been wrong with Campbell's contract is that it's missing 4 superfluous years at $1M tacked on to it. It'd be a $5.4M cap hit at that point which would be pretty much spot on.

As I said unfortunately the invention of those type of contracts had not been accomplished until the year after Campbell was signed. Shame because he has proven his worth to this team in the playoffs without a doubt.

Nice Article with Dudley.

"I love (Flyers GM) Paul Holmgren, he's a wonderful guy, and the Philadelphia Flyers have been one of the top organizations in the NHL since I played (in the 1970s)," he said. "But there are so many kids on the Chicago Blackhawks that I care about -- when I look at them play I have a real sense of pride.

"This is a good group of kids, all of them. There's not a bad kid on that team."

"I'm glad to see Dale's getting some recognition for the job he did there," Dudley said.

"I look at all those kids, from (Jonathan) Toews, (Patrick) Kane, (Dustin) Byfuglien -- they're a group of kids that are genuinely good people," Dudley said. "When they come to the rink, they enjoy coming (there). I was lucky enough to play in the Stanley Cup Final (with Buffalo in 1975), and I played on a team where all the players on that team enjoyed getting together. I think in the ultimate couple-of-months grind that are the playoffs, I think it's essential that you enjoy each other. "

I love that Dean Lombardi told the press he was the GM who voted for Dale.

Panthers Capitalize On Chicago's Turnover

June 3, 2010 - 1:53 pm

Michael Ozanian is National Editor at Forbes

The best move during the NHL playoffs occurred off the ice when the new owners of the Florida Panthers, Stu Siegel and Cliff Viner, signed Dale Tallon as the team's general manager. The Panthers have not made the playoffs in a decade. Tallon will quickly make the team much better. As GM of the Chicago Blackhawks for four years beginning in June 2005, Tallon took a down and out franchise and built it into one of the most talented, young teams in the league (think of the Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews draft selections). NHL insiders say Tallon was forced out of Chicago because John McDonough, who became president of the Blackhawks in November 2007, wanted to bring in current GM Stan Bowman. This was a big mistake by Chicago's owner, Rocky Wirtz. By turning Chicago into a playoff team, Tallon indirectly generated millions of dollars in annual revenue and value for Wirtz. It will not be too long before Tallon does the same thing for the Panthers.

It wasn't Dudley if that's what you're suggesting. When LeBrun broke the story, I asked him and he flat out said that it wasn't. He could have been lying, but I don't see why he would feel the need to.

Razz I'm pretty sure Fanof19 was saying Lombardi was the one who voted for Tallon. Why after stabbing Tallon in the back and or allowing it to happen for his personal gain would Stan do it?

LA Times on the new GM Of the Year Award---

Lombardi said he voted for Tallon for the new award.

"Tell me who's done a better building job than him the last six years, and if GMs are builders I think that's a phenomenal job he's done," Lombardi said.

Must be fun for Stan and or Mcdonough when they are around the other NHL owners/GM brass and most or all of them think they are both ass clowns. Says while things change some things will always be the same.

Rick was not a GM at the time of the voting, so he wouldn't have been able to vote. I always thought it was Brian Burke, so I was happily surprised to see it was Dean. Bold move. McD has to be DYING at all the positive press DT is getting, and he can't control any of it.

We joked about that last night after the game in Kettle One. It was when

the guy was doing the jig. Stu and her husband had the sign last night and

the were in the level above the guy while the camera was on him. It certainly

did not stay in focus or in the shot for long!

Nice job on Steve taking the honors with the sign during pregame on the glass.

I got to stand back and watch the players go by, acknowledge it with a tap on

glass and a shot aimed at it. Not sure if they left the pucks behind this time since

we were behind Steve.

Really? 'Cause even with the endorphins flowing last night, I still can't help but slump in my seat when it's time for the ****** dance. From the bandwagonners finding it so entertaining to his white Indianhead to a Boston band singing about Boston -- I just can't abide, man.
