Wanting to Stay

According to Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune, forward Bryan Bickell, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, wants to re-sign with the club.

"I don't want to be shipped around the league," Bickell said. "I want to be with one team."

General manager Stan Bowman praised Bickell's play this season.

"He's played great this year," Bowman told the Tribune. "He's … kind of coming into his own. Originally, it was learning what it was like to be just to be in the lineup every night and now it's more than that. He wants to be a difference-maker. He's got a role and he's playing that role. As a result, it's noticeable how that line in particular seems to be quite effective. Some nights they're our best line and he's a big part of it."

Carcillo only played 2:26 vs the Ducks.

When a guy like Bollig gets more minutes than you, you suck.

he just isnt very good. even with all the injuries he doesnt play and rightfully so. he just isnt good.

if hossa is ok and sharp comes back when they say..allbeit the brass being confident in that..i think we should stand pat or make one move for a 2c just to really make this team just over the top. we dont need any more filler / grindy / meatball fan wet dream players that have fire and passion

In terms of what the Blackhawks need, I'm guessing it would be (in no order)

2c, 4c, PP QB, or LW with skill/grit.

Blackhawks got out hit in Anaheim pretty bad and it showed up in the loss, even though Sharp/Hossa would have made a difference.

Would have to think that every prospect is available (minus a select few), then the RFA/UFAs possibly depending on what type of deal they are looking for (Stalberg, Bickell, Mayers, Leddy). I can actually see Leddy getting traded...believe it or not. Can't imagine him asking for #5 dman money which is exactly what he is in Chicago, even though he is only 22 and has a bright future. Things could get interesting on that front. I think Stalberg and Bickell stay, as it seems the Blackhawks are trying to sign them both. Then I think Bolland (more likely in the offseason), Frolik, and Carcillo will be "dangled". Carcillo is currently more or less injured though (had his knee drained last week, which made no sense why he "played" the other day).

Going to be an interesting trade deadline. Teams are swapping conferences/divisions next year, shortened season probably means less sellers, salary cap coming down next year, and you can now trade money/cap.

They don't need Grit. If there is a player that is out there that has this "grit" he needs to be skilled as well not another one of you Bolligs,Mayers,Carcillo etc type player. They didn't lose because they were out hit. The Ducks are a very good team and when you have makeshift lines because two of your core producers are out you have a good chance of losing against anyone.

Exactly why I said Skill/Grit type of LW. A few guys out there might include Clowe, Iginla (rw mostly), Malone (depending on when he comes back) and others. Also, I think that players like Martin, Thompson, and some more help improve more than a Mayers/Bollig do.

I do believe that while the Ducks are definitely a good team, I believe that the hitting and physicality of the Ducks made a big difference.

Got a feeling that if any prospect gets moved, it's a center. You've got Pirri/McNeill/Danault coming up the ranks and 2, at the most, spots available for those three. Danault is probably the least likely to go, as I hear he's tearing up the QMJHL right now.

I see your point about Leddy, but I imagine they'll hang on to him and possibly dangle Oduya, who's trade value has never been higher. But I don't think anyone in the D corps gets moved til the summer.

Judging from Bowman's past, though, I'm thinking it's another quiet trade deadline for the Hawks. Maybe a depth forward added .. but that's about it.

I agree on the center depth of prospects. I highly doubt Danault gets moved, he is my favorite prospect for the Blackhawks right now and love his future at the pro level. I think Pirri is the guy who gets moved. I'm actually pretty high on Pirri (more so than McNeill even) but it just seems like he is going to get a shot in the NHL sooner or later, and I don't think it is with the Blackhawks unfortunately.

I love how Leddy is looking this year. The RFA process with Leddy and a shrinking cap (along with a few other guys to sign) is definitely scary. If you can get a 2c right now out of Leddy and are able to bring in a solid #5/6 guy (hard to say Leddy is really a #5 guy, kinda just where he is for the time being) then I think you really have to sit down and ponder it. I'd be fine with trading Oduya over Leddy, let Leddy grow a little more and see where it goes. He is only 22, he has a bright future.

That's sorta what I'm getting at. He's not playing like a #5 right now but the dominant seasons of Hjalmarsson/Oduya has made put him in that role. But Leddy is finally starting to blossom into the kind of player the Hawks were hoping for when they traded for him. (For Cam Barker, no less. The Wild are dumb). I still like Hammer's upside as a relatively young player, so I could see Oduya being moved in the offseason, re-sign Leddy with that vacated cap space and bump him up to the Top 4, then have Roszival and someone else as your third D pairing in 2013-14. Wouldn't surprise me if that someone was Adam Clendening.
