Seeing as you consistently brag about having me on ignore, anything I say should not bother you in the least and surely would not be worth the Niagara Falls of tears you consistently shed.

Hey, guys. I want to let you in on a little secret. There is absolutely nothing less interesting than a guy discussing his fantasy team.

And arguing about it makes it even worse.

CHICAGO -- As of now, Carlos Villanueva stays in the Cubs' rotation, but Jake Arrieta is getting close to returning to the big league team.

Arrieta, who was slowed this spring with tightness in his right shoulder, made his fourth Minor League rehab start on Monday, pitching for Class A Daytona, and gave up five runs -- three earned -- on five hits, including three homers, over 5 2/3 innings. Arrieta struck out seven, including the last two batters he faced in the sixth. He has made three starts for Double-A Tennessee, but the Cubs wanted Arrieta pitching in warm weather and to go about 100 pitches on Monday.

Will a start at Class A be enough to prep Arrieta for the big leagues?

"I think the intensity level that everybody has when they're down on rehabs, everybody's different," Cubs manager Rick Renteria said. "Some guys don't think about it too much and just focus on what they're doing. Some guys see it as kind of being lax because it's a different arena.

"In his case, he's a guy who goes out there and knows he has to command and stay clean in his delivery and hit his spots," Renteria said. "It might be a little different for pitchers than position players."

Renteria said they won't know if Arrieta will need another rehab start after Monday until they see how he responds from the outing.

Villanueva is 1-2 with a 10.66 ERA in three starts, and will go to the bullpen when Arrieta returns.

So, if you look at players this front office has targeted in FA as priority types and not roster fillers they have all been 29 or younger. That is to say guys like Sanchez, Darvish, Tanaka...etc. I figured it might be worth while to keep an eye on those type of players this year. Here's some guys that fall under that.

CF Colby Rasmus(28)
SP Brett Anderson(27 $12 mil option)
SP Wei-Yin Chen(29 $4.25 mil option)
SP Johnny Cueto (29 $10 mil option)
SP Yovani Gallardo (29 $13 mil option)

I'd also throw Justin Masterson (30) in there considering Theo and Co drafted him as well as Max Scherzer (30) for obvious reasons. Rasmus in particular is interesting because he's a lefty and there's a lack of lefties in the system. He's not having a great year thus far hitting .191/.257/.397. He's been pretty inconsistent through his career so a down year might make him cheaper but given the people set to be FAs I doubt any hitter goes cheap. Anderson is pitching well thus far with a 3.60 ERA. Chen's never been much more than a back of the rotation starter. Cueto's been stellar with a 1.50 ERA. Gallardo has been good too with a 1.42 ERA. Masterson's been kind of awful at 4.98 ERA. Scherzer is keeping up with his season last year with a 2.33 ERA.

I think some people were having a conversation about Castro possibly getting 3000 hits before he retires...

"Through Derek Jeter's age-24 season, he had 588 career hits. Pete Rose had 518 through his age-24 season. Starlin Castro is only a few weeks into his age-24 season and he has 715 career hits. I can't say strongly enough: I AM NOT SAYING STARLIN CASTRO IS GOING TO BE DEREK JETER OR PETE ROSE. I am, however, saying that he has a ton of hits for being so young. He's almost a quarter of the way to 3,000."

Maybe it's not THAT crazy to think it's a possibility...?

Just saw a little item at the bottom of a CST article. Arrieta says he is ready to go, but Renteria wants one more short-start tune up for him first.

In other words, lets lose one more with Villanueva

Do you think that throwing him into the bullpen is going to make the Cubs any better? This is exactly what you get when you refuse to spend money on good players.

Wonder what kind of bullpen the Cubs could have had if they used a tad bit of that Tanaka money? What's a few games in the WIN column says some of the people around here?

The answer is they would be ahead of the Pirates and Reds, and a game and a half behind the mighty Cardinals.

That's why you should always give yourself a chance to succeed. :yep:

And that is what is most frustrating about this Theo cat. While they are waiting for the maybes to happen, they aren't even trying at all to even maybe win. They want to suck. They have to be tanking on purpose. I mean, it can't hurt that bad to maybe mix it up and get some good players and let the season unfold and maybe pull off a miracle, nope, let's just sign shit and watch it stink all year. ....Cubsway. **** YOU, THICKETTSER!

Last game he gassed out in the 4th. But he had 7 SO's at that point.

Last year
Starter: 1-7 4.50 ERA 1.26 WHIP
Relief: 6-1 3.03 ERA 1.14 WHIP

The numbers back up that he is better as a middle man.

i was at the hawks game last night and talking to my brother about this very thing. it's a loser mentality with the cubs. and it's never going to change. look at the "fans" on this very forum that continue to defend a shit sandwich. losers always have excuses, champions always try to win. remember the 83-game winning world champion cardinals? how about the 87 game winning world champion twins? how about the red sox being in last place one year, then winning the next?

losers always have excuses for losing more. losers are always talking about some bullshit "plan". champions are always trying to be champions.

No, its a cost cutting mentality that comes from ownership. The last 3 owners have fucked the Cubs. Its new and old regime who take the heat though.

Rugg DL, Parker AAA, Rosscup and Ramirez to the pen. Not against this move. This puts Schierholtz into a full time role in RF.

Did they say how long Ruggiano is supposed to be out? I'm not clamoring for him to be back but I am curious how long Schierholtz is in a full time role.

Until they can trade him.

I would expect 15 days He was hitting .310 leading up to his injury.

But making Shierholtz full time increasres his trade value.

Now when Arrieta gets back I would expect Ramirez demoted. Unless he is running a sub 1.00 WHIP and a ERA in the 2. Or less. Then that would force another move.

On Rosscup it could be an opertunity for him. Russell has stunk.

Ramirez seems to have the same problem the rest of the cubs bullpen has had in that he's walking people. I do like him as a pitcher if he can get that down but in AAA he was walking 6.43 per 9. Rosscup was fine in the majors in his 2 innings but not particularly great in AAA with 5.68 walks per 9.
