the whole point is who gives a flying **** how many hits he has as FT stated your ops + blows, ops blows, a very ehh OBP if you want to just look at that, his lack of power, his bad defense....i mean ****, juan pierre had a lot of hits....who cares?

Dew Castro is a proven major league player who hits major league pitching.
Baez is on the DL and before that made 3 errors and hit .154.
Baez at this point has proven to be a worse SS than Castro. 40 errors last year.
The reality here is Baez needs to hit AAA pitching to even get called up. As we saw with Brett Jackson's flop this is not a walk in the park. After that he has to adjust to the 3rd deck and major league pitching. As we saw with Rizzo in SD how that can go. And last year his hitting was subpar.
Even if he progresses he still has not proven he can handle SS. To put it simply his D blows.
So right now you stick with a sure thing vs a not sure thing. Even then Baez's projects anywhere on the diamond if it develops. The is still an if.
