You are an idiot.

My point was he is on pace to hit 3000 hits and you want to nit pick a month or 1 year.

My point is when you look at great hitters no one looks at a few month span or a slump year or what ever. They look at the body of work.

So pipe down

A MONTH? A YEAR? He's been bad-sub par for two seasons. It's not as though I'm bitching about him hitting .280 for a month while he continues to hit.325 for a season. I'm bringing up him hitting poorly for the better part of two years and a month in which he hit .235.

Totally sounds like Tony Gwynn though...

NO HE DIDN'T.

He made a point about career hit totals for players, and the fact that Starlin Castro will be known for that, as opposed to Gold Gloves or HR's.

Castro will have close to 850-900 hits at age 24. The starting age is a huge, huge factor when it comes to career hit totals.

If he doesn't play well enough going forward, it will become moot. But if he continues to play every day, he will pile up a LOT of hits by the time he s through. For pete's sake, the kid had 200 hits in a season at age 21.(Or was it 20?).

Again. Forest from Trees. If Castro keeps racking up hits but is a defensive liability and a career OPS+'er of 96 how important are those hits? How great is he really? Starlin Castro is quickly turning into Jay Cutler of the Cubs. One "Pro Bowl" season(200 hits) a few years ago, nothing of real note since; uber talented; constant mental gaffes; middling production; blind homers defending him.

How long until the Smoking Starlin Castro memes?

Castro is having a good start to the season but he needs to be consistent all year. One hot month won't mean anything if he slumps the rest of the season.

You have to remember it was after Dale and Theo tinkering with his mechanics his numbers plummeted. He is back to his old ways and his numbers are along the same lines. The odds are he will go back to his pre-Dale production vs continue along the during Dale years.

The way I look at it is Dale fucked up and got fired. Theo told Castro to be your self. He did and is producing again.

This team need players that can hit. I wouldn't knock Castro just because I want Baez at SS. Baez has not hit at Iowa and has 3 errors already in less action. Until Baez is a better SS than Castro then we can have this conversation.

Don't get me wrong. I believe potentially Baez and Alcantara are better than Castro at SS and 2B but that is potential. Castro is producing at SS now and is at a 3000 Hit pace.

It would tale a lot to bump him out. Like both are putting up all star production.

I would play it safe and keep it status Que. If Baez dominates Iowa then call him up. But considering he has looked like shit at Iowa O and D and is on the DL it is a mute point right now.

The only player at Iowa I would consider at this point is Vitters at a corner OF spot. He is earning a look.

I don't know if Vitters will turn out to be anything, but he seems to be doing well at AAA and is still only 24... I'd rather see him than Ruggiano or Sweeney...

Ricky is in love with L/R match ups right now. Seeing how he is limited to LF I would consider a RH line up of Bonifacio at 2B, Lake in CF and Vitters in LF. Rugg in RF and ass can Barney. But that is just me.

I would rather stack more power hitters in the line up in general playing at Wrigg.

Sweeney is struggling. That AB in STL when he swung at an awful ball 4 was enough for me.

That is why you are an idiot F/T

24 YO. So 12 years from the drop off age of 36.

Start of the year: 692 career hits.

3000 - 692 = 2308

So he would have to Avg 192 hits to make it to 3000 at 36.

But that is the age of 36.

His career BA is .283 Avg AB per year sense his first full year = 662
.283 * 662 = 187.346

I see it as as long he keeps his career pace and stays healthy he can hit 3k.

So again haters will hate huna?

Jay Cutler ? If castro can put up stats like cutler he will be one of the top statistical SS in cubs history as cutler is the best statistical QB in bears history.. we could only hope castro has that much success

I dont care about the best SS in Cubs history. All I'm saying is he started the year needing 2308 hits to 3000. At the age of 24 that is not a huge deal.

Do I see another better solution yet? No. Baez for all of his glory made 40+ errors last year and made 3 early on. While hitting .154. ya great start of the year.

For all the bashing on Castro who is a top 2 player on the current Cubs people are putting more on a guy has not performed at AAA....err Brett Jackson ring a bell.

Even Rizzo got crap for hitting at AAA and flopping at the major league level 2x's.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Or a bird in the hand is worth more than 3 in the bush. They may never make it still.

Probably like Marmol, Boy Blunder Epstein is trying to up value then dish......expect the same until Veras is so bad he forces the hand like Marmol did.

Saw this on the ESPNChicago comments... looks like our boy patg found a new place to spread his message while he's banned here...

Haha, wow. Just saw Pat's Facebook page. Nothing more than just another little midget clown man who does all his trash-talking on message boards since it's the only place he wouldn't get his ass kicked for it. If he ever comes back wanting to talk a big game, I'll show him who's the tough guy behind the computer screen...
