Those are two horribly written articles.

As the second one mentions, Castro rebounded. So we should have a knee jerk reaction before he has a chance to rebound? It's not like we're going to lose a pennant race this year.

You have to be good first to have a rebound. Jackson has never been a good pitcher.

A= Top end
B= Good
C= league avg
D= AAAA
F= why is he getting paid?

He has been a C most of his career. With the Cubs he has been a D. He has a few B level games but never a B level pitcher.

Him rebounding means he goes back to league avg. The only justification for retention is due to the 22 mil ticket on his head..but they ate Zambrano and Sori's deals. I'll bet they eat his also if they can get a A ball pitcher with some upside.

Are you kidding me?

From 2007(when Jackson became a full time starter) to 2013, he was worth 17.7 WAR. That's good for 32nd in baseball. I'd say that's a pretty good pitcher.

E-Jax's contract is like the one LaTroy Hawkins received when he had success prior to coming to the Cubs. It's just one of those contracts you wish they never gave and that are never going to pan out. The brass knows he has not been anywhere near what they wanted.

I guess they give him one more year since the Cubs probably won't be knocking on the door next year. After that, they will probably have to eat some of his contract to rid him from the team. Just guessing.

Darwin Barney is going to bat a minimum of .300 for the month of July.

Hammel makes the most sense for them.

They do not have the talent to get Shark in the minors

Only solid arm is Clarkin. He is not a top 100.

I would take Manny Banaous Clarkin and a bat for Hammel and some cap cash. Yanks are over and the Cubs have cap to give.

Got ya. You know what I meant. Yanks system lacks impact talent.

I'm still thinking that Theo plays the Yanks and the Jays off of each other. Add Hammel to the Yanks and the Jay's need a counter and give up for Shark.

Not a bad play for Theo IMO.

I agree with this to an extent. I just want to say that Edwin Jackson isn't the worst kind of FA pitcher signing. The worst kind of FA pitcher is the one that gets hurt and does nothing. As bad as jackson has been he's gone out and given the cubs the cubs 271 innings. Most of them were poor innings sure but he's not been so bad that he's replaced easily with a 4A guy. With that in mind he's given you 2 WAR last year and is on pace for another 2 WAR season. Probably not what you're expecting out of $11 mil/season(or $13 if you include signing bonus). But, it's not the worst 4/5th starter in history.

You're right. That award would go to Chris Volstad. :sweep:

Had a dream that the Cubs traded Russell and Barney for Seth Smith and PTBNL. Needless to say, I woke up disappointed.

Come to think of it I rewrote the song about a year ago...

"The Long and Rewarding Journey"
The long and rewarding journey that leads to the playoffs
Will never occur here
I've seen that plan before
It always leads to failure
Lead us to the playoffs

The wild and young prospects that Theo acquired
Has left a few fans crying for a chance
Why leave us hoping here,
Let us know the way
Many times I've been wrong and many times I've raged
Anyway you'll never know the many ways they’ve tried
And still they lead the Cubs back to the long and rewarding journey
You left us hopeless here one hundred and five years ago
Don't leave us waiting here, Lead us to the playoffs

But still they lead me back to the long and rewarding journey
You left us hopeless here a one hundred and five years ago
Don't keep us waiting here (Don't keep us wait), lead us to the playoffs
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
