Nick, this deal is bigger than Flacco's contract. And he won the SuperBowl....

It should come as no surprise that you continue to miss the overall setup of the contract. You get your mike glennon jersey yet?

8 years in the league and he hasn't cracked a 90 passer rating once but gets paid 126 mil. This type of shit only happens to the Cowboys & Bears. Such a Jerry Angelo move..

Yeah im not happy with the numbers but Flacco got hot at the right time and that's it. They took away two weapons from him and he fell apart. He didn't even revert to average like Cutler was when he had shit around him, he just sucked

126 million is insane. Kiss at least one potential FA goodbye, maybe two. Even the biggest Cutler homers didn't try to claim he'd get anything close to 100 million. We as fans better hope that his potential finally arrives and that he stays healthy or the team is screwed for a good long while.

Good thing Jay gave us that hometown discount all his fanboys promised.

Or.. They want him here for 7? Either way, they think highly of him.

btw is it me or is Trestmans hair getting..Worse?

You'd be pulling your hair out too if you had to rely on Jay Cutler to get you by the Packers.

True. How does it stack up year for year? Seems that it's frontloaded to the first three seasons. Just don't get caught up in the hooplah, I don't agree with the amount either, but it is what it is. Money, time, belief - time for Cutler to produce. I said it earlier in the thread.

And some 20 current QBs have made it to the playoffs more often. Trestman has set himself up for failure.

Bears re-signed QB Jay Cutler to a seven-year contract.
The Bears weren't going to let Cutler twist in the wind as he careened toward free agency in March. Now, at least on paper, they have their strong-armed franchise quarterback locked up through 2020, his age-37 season. In reality, they'll likely be able to get out cheaply after the first three seasons of the deal -- which will reportedly average $18 million per year. It's still a bold move from GM Phil Emery, as Cutler has been to the playoffs just once in his eight-year career and has a mediocre 56-48 career regular season record. But in his first year under quarterback whisperer Marc Trestman, Cutler posted five-year highs in passer rating (89.2), yards per game (238.3) and completion percentage (63.1). There's still reason to believe he can become elite and the Bears have moved their chips to the middle to bet on it. Jan 2 - 10:35 AM

Make no mistake, if it had been for 200 million all guaranteed and the Bears were handicapped from signing any FAs for five years, the likes of desperado would be celebrating even more vociferously. Like I've always said, they care more about Cutler than they do the success of the Bears.

Ok so Cutler is here to stay for a while longer.... can we talk about whether we should fire Mel Tucker some more, I feel that topic has been neglected

And this is why 7 years from now we'll still have fans reminiscing over 85. We are a mediocre organization with fans who reward potential over production. Good job.

Guys need to relax. The 126 million looks big because it is 7 years. Jay is never going to see the last two years of the deal. Furthermore, I suspect Stein has structured it in a way where the cap hit for Jay is actually going to be less than the 14 million it was this year. Here his how you can easily structure a 7 year 126 million deal with 54 million guaranteed assuming the guaranteed money is all signing bonus.

BS SB Cap Hits
3m 7.72m 10.72m
5m 7.72m 12.72m
7m 7.72m 14.72m
10m 7.72m 17.72m
11m 7.72m 18.72m
18m 7.72m 25.72m
18m 7.72m 25.72m
72m 54.0m 126.04m
