I was on the fence on Cutler before the signing. He has clearly not shown he's elite... However, I think Cutler brings enough to the table that we can win Super Bowls with him... If our D could have made a couple more stops, we'd be in the playoffs right now... The real clusterfuck this season was on D. Drastic measures need to be taken now. If our D doesn't improve, we can all agree we won't win anything with Cutler.

We have our QB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Celebrate good times!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, let's celebrate another year of no playoffs or one and done. When are people going to see Cutler for what he is rather than what the media tells you he is? Cutler always plays like ass when the season is on the line. He doesn't know how to handle pressure, and doesn't respond well when challenged. He'll bust his ass again next season anyway. I hope to god McCown takes his job.

minimal considering the increased amount of dump offs.

but dump offs are good, its that conservative style of play that people praise when they see it from McCown and what they asked for out of Cutler

I just dont understand...1st year in a new system you see a huge spike in comp% out of him even though people say Jay Cutler is too old and can't change. Whats stopping the system from improving Jay further in other statistical areas?

if people want to say 'boo hoo, Jay is a jerk and can't change and will always suck'...I'm fine with crediting the system for any success he sees. Whatever it takes.

Really not a huge spike. He's done it before but just has been exceptionally bad with the Bears. A 63% completion rate is not as outstanding as you seem to be thinking it is. Christian Ponder had a higher completion % than Cutler.

for people who say "he is who he is" or "Jay will never change", how do you explain his jump in comp%?

Two reasons:
1) Small sample size. The difference in his career comp. percentage and this year, is roughly a total of about 5 or 6 real passes in 2013. (comp. percent is 61% career, 63.1 % 2013 = 2%, and 2% of 224 passes completed in 2013 = 4.5 passes)
2) Lower sack percent. i.e his line was better (sack percent 8.1% last year (6.1% career) vs 5.1% in 2013)

I know that but thats because Ponder couldnt throw further than 10 yards and kept checking it down every play for 3 yards.

Cutler has a hand cannon and can throw it 60 yards down the field. A 64% comp% is damn good for him considering he's had a sub-60% comp% the past few years.

Statistical improvement is statistical improvement, why can't it affect other areas, such as TD/INT ratio which everyone seems to agree is the end-all be-all of judging QB play?

Even when he had the better completion % in Denver, he still had a lot of turnovers so I'm not seeing your point.

Not really a dink dump system... both Josh and Jay were in the top ten of QBs for Yards per attempt...

aha, so its the system that caused the improvement?

maybe next year the system will cause his TD/INT ratio to change

I'm fine with crediting the system if it means better QB play

How much better? 63.1% with these players in an offense like this isn't particularly impressive. Matt Ryan had around 70 last year if I'm not mistaken, Brees was, and a few others have been up close to 70 and with better production (TD/turnovers).

Even in this offense with these weapons he still failed to crack a 90 passer rating, which is done by 11 or 12 QBs on an annual basis. His passer rating of 89.2 with elite twin tower receivers in 2013 was a whopping 2.9 higher than his rating with Devin Hester and Johnny Knox in 2010.

Trestman wasn't in Denver and jay wasn't as good a qb then as he is now.

My point is that trestman and this roster can bring out the best in jay. Its just gonna take time but people have run out of patience with jay because he's been here five years and wasn't able to turn shit into gold all by himself

To be honest, I didn't see any change in him this past season and now that he's been drastically overpaid, IDK what's going to motivate him to change now.

Lets be fair here. He would have had that 90 if he didn't get hurt and if he didn't have that desperation int against GB

Really, last year with the season on the line he beat the Detroit Lions on the road with his arm and his legs. Later that day the great Aaron Rodgers was beaten by the Minnesota Vikings which left us out of the playoffs at 10-6. This year he outplayed Rodgers head to head but forgot to go play Safety on the final critical drive so yes I guess he played like "ass" on Sunday. Also, it truly is Cutler's fault we had a historically bad defense in 2013. There's no chance this offense will improve with some continuity. I mean now that the Bears have some weapons and don't allow the QB to get hit on every damn play how could they possibly raise their level of play! Let's go with Josh McCown or start over with some rookie. Screw continuity... What Quarterback ever benefitted from that?

He'll always get hurt cause he's very soft and more play time likely means more ints with him which means an even lower rating. I've seen guys who just get 1 elite wr and their rating soars up 20 points or so. Cutler just doesn't have anything more to give than we've already seen.

Just keep bitching dude. Your crying isn't going to help the fact that Jay is here to stay. You might as well get used to Jay being around.

Seven years and $120M and $54M of that guarantee as the Bears have had their best QB in years. Despite boos and injuries at times. Glad that they resigned him. It needed to get down.
