WE STILL HAVE A FUCKLOAD OF CAP SPACE! :obama:

Yeah I don't get all the angst. We had about 45 million in cap space and if Cutler like Rodgers has a cap hit in the first year of 12 million then we still have 33 million in cap space. Once you factor in Jennings and Slauson that probably takes us down to 28 million or so. Then you can create 10 to 14 million more in cap space by cutting, trading, or asking Peppers to take a pay cut.

if that was the best option, don't you think Trestman/Emery would have went with it?

again it comes down to faith, either you have faith in what this coach/GM is doing or you don't.

Trestman could have easily said "I hate this guy Jay, he doesn't fit my system, get rid of him."

No one said it was the best option. I said it was a reasonable alternative. Personally I was indifferent to the whole thing and could get behind either option but people are entitled to feel one way or another about it if they so choose.

Think you need to see the cap hits first. Aaron Rodgers only counted 12 million against the Cap this year and I think there is no way on earth Cutler ever sees 126 million.

Do you have the numbers Remy?

Ponder this for a moment. What the hell is the point of keeping Peppers if the refs don't even bother flagging the douchebags holding him all game long. Its like teams realized they won't get flagged for it and have just dedicated themselves to doubling and holding him all game long. He essentially gets wiped from the stat sheet altogether. What is the point of keeping that around?

Looks like this thread is gonna have a 1000 post before midnight, moving pretty quick considering it was just started this morning. I guess people love themselves some Cutty.

@ Remy - Perhaps it's all good, last time I was there, there was a new fancy joint opened up my links around London Bridge aren't what they used to be, I tend to drink North now, so I'm probably less well informed than you are. I do remember some good pubs tucked away around the back of the hospital and a bit further down although they are pumping alot of money into the area to make it all shiney.

I should go for a visit.

Yeah to be fair, they were always in the process of building something around Borough/London Bridge area so who knows. I worked by the Mayor's office over at More London so I would go there once or twice a week for lunch. That and those late night lamb doner joints were 90% of my diet while I was over there, lol.

Surely the contract is back loaded? To where most of the money is at the end? Maybe with stipulations that he has to produce? There's no way he will be here for the whole thing...

Nah, don't think the breakdown has been released yet but I trust Cliff Stein more than anyone in the Bears org so I am certain it will be favorable to us and fit with our FA plans. I suspect Emery pretty much tells Stein make it 18 million a year but I need X million for FA this year and Stein fucking goes off and does his magic.

Nope. This is it, this is our entire offseason. There will be no cuts, restructures, extensions and signings. Im not going to sit there and say I like the numbers but man some folks are getting a little crazy. It essentially for 3 years
Look fellas. I'm trying to be on the optimistic side here but this contract is scaring me. I just really hope Cutler finally plays to his potential and has a career year and another full off season under the same scheme, there is absolutely no reason why he can't. There is no more excuses for him. This is his big shot to prove himself and to the organization. With the rumors of his offensive teammates all working out together in Marshall world and any new acquisitions Emery might give Cutler this off season and draft, I can't help but be excited but I have said that many times before only to be let down.

I look forward to seeing the breakdown. I suppose a good thing here is that QB is no longer one of our draft needs.

Just because Cutler got a seven year contract doesn't mean he'll be playing here for seven years. And just because the contract is $126mil doesn't mean he's going to see all of that. Between Emery and Stein's cap savvy and Cutler being explicitly clear that he wants to win, I trust that this won't be a burdensome albatross.

He posted an 89 QB rating in the first year of a new system despite missing time due to an injury just as the offense was beginning to take off. He also led several 4th quarter comebacks and his 4th quarter rating was simply sick. He's back because the QB whisperer wanted him back, and Jay wanted to be back. This is the most offensive potential the Chicago Bears have EVER had. So what exactly is their to be pessimistic about?
