Anybody listening to 670? Spiegel claims to have a source that tells him that Cutler gets a pro-rated bonus, making his cap hit in year 1 only 11.5. He's posting the numbers on twitter shortly, in case anybody is interested.

Doesn't mean it's accurate, just interesting to speculate and hope its true. 22.5 would be ridiculous, given the needs on defense.

Very interesting, maybe Emery is even better than we thought.

Who knows, he didn't pull him for McCown this year. He started right when he was healthy, they didn't go with "the hot hand", McCown.
And that is his choice to make. He will also give Cutler some time in games in an effort to get him going. I have noticed that about Cutler, he needs some PT to get comfortable. I have faith, I'm a Bear fan! Lovie is gone and that is all good in my book!

We shall see...if he puts up play like he has for the 3 years into the contract...he probably won't be here for a 4th year.

I agree, but I do believe he will play better his second year into the system with this oline and skill position talent. Hopefully he doesn't make the dumb mistakes that cost us points, that's what pisses me off.

Here are the numbers, according to Spiegel's source:

The official salary cap hits for Cutler are as follows:

’14: 11.8 mil
’15: 15.3 mil
’16: 16.8 mil
’17: 18.3 mil
’18: 18.8 mil
’19: 22 mil
’20: 23 mil

SOURCE: Cutler contract calls for a prorated bonus of $10.8 mil for each of the first 5 seasons, adding up to the $54 mil guaranteed total.

SOURCE: Cutler's base salary for '14 is just 1 mil, and rises progressively to 8 mil for year 5, jumps to 22 mil in year 6, 23 mil in year 7

Because no other QB ever makes a mistake right?

Hope that isn't true, I'd prefer the early cap hits.

That wouldn't fall in line with the talk of Cutler's $54 million being guaranteed for the first 3 years. This would make it first 5.

Yeah, I'd probably rather have only the first 3 years guaranteed. These numbers would help out the rebuilding of the defense this year though. It's a give and take thing. Hope it works out.

That seems so much better. Now if this is true, I can't wait to watch some of the people on here switch from saying how brilliant it was for Emery to front end the deal, to how brilliant it was for Emery to back end the deal.

Why in Cutlers case though? 23 Million in '20 probably won't be that much for a solid QB. If he isn't worth the cap hit in the final years of his contract you simply move on or restructure. This is a good thing that Emery did if it's true, especially for the Cutler signing.

Yeah I understand that, but he makes too many risky throws IMO. He was better about it this year.
Because he actually had options that were decent enough to consider.

You know like in past years when Hester was running wrong routes and pulling defensive backs into areas, where they really shouldn't have been.

Yes, I know this.

I'm waiting for a third source to offer the details of Cutlers contract, before I firmly hedge my bets.

Nope one post on me. you still haven't answered the question. I understand how you feel.

Shall we revisit?
Nope...it will just be the excuse next year if Cutler's play mirrors this years

Well if it's true would they be wrong?

Again...I don't know how Tim Jennings play would make Jay Cutler throw into to triple coverage resulting in an INT...or fumble the ball when taking a sack resulting in a TD for the other team.
