Does everyone fully understand what tanking this year involves?
Not to spoil the podcast I'll be taping tonight with X since we're talking about this topic at length, but if the Bulls were to tank (which they won't, there's a 0% chance Thibs is going to let this team quit, and there's also a 0% chance Deng, Noah, etc., would let this team roll over -- it isn't happening), we would have to deal both Deng and Boozer. Not only are those large contracts to move, the Bulls roster is already set to the point that it'd have to be a player of similar value in return. We couldn't add multiple pieces unless we traded multiple pieces.
Think about it -- are we going to take in all these players in trades and just start cutting guys with guaranteed contracts and go ridiculously deep into the luxury tax? We're already there as the roster is currently constructed. If we're looking to retool on the fly, we need to do it after the '14 draft. Let Deng walk for nothing or sign and trade him for a package of younger assets. Let Hinrich's $4 million walk away for nothing and trade Boozer's and Dunleavy's expiring deals for something. Other than that, our roster is going to look eerily similar to what it looks like right now. The only changes I'd see are whatever picks we land in the draft and possibly Mirotic if he comes over from Spain.
