Danualt has a lot of qualities to be a good bottom 6 center and they've told him to try to groom and focus on his D aspects of the game. He also seems to scrum and score goals around the net crease well so he might have some ability there that will go well with a focused center D game. My favorite idea would be making him next years more traditional energy 4th line center, and keep Kruger while giving him better offensive wingers for partners as a 3rd line center.

McNeil is a tough case because he is a guy they've tried to change the most from who he was when taken. There was hope he could potentially grow into a 2nd line center when drafted or at least be a really good 3rd line center, but after his last CHL year then he was desired by the Hawks to use his physical form more and try to adjust his game to be a more power forward. I don't think he really played a power forward role before, but trying to groom into that role sometimes takes a good while for the guys who even can do it. I wouldn't want to write him off yet or have him added in a trade boost but I don't know if he will groom into a good guy in the role. I think their line grew to play good 2-way game though.

He is widdling teams down slowly on his supposed list. I don't mind him milking it but he's told Columbus he's not staying with them, and now told the Rangers he won't sign with them.

He still is down to what seems like CHi, Minnesota, or LA. I'm not too much of a fan of savoring it yet until I know he has picked Chicago, it'd be a huge fit for the club though, but he has many connections to Minnesota, it's just they have a lot of signed young Dmen like Dumba so he can't get a legit great shot at the NHL there year 1.

If he comes here, that softens the blow of losing a guy like Kevin Hayes IMO.. Hope it happens!

After getting screwed by Hayes, I still hate the system, but I'll be a hypocrite and take Reilly.

Have to agree. Moving Shaw makes no sense.

I don't think moving Shaw is even going to come up. For 2 million dollars he pretty much gives you more for your dollar.

I'm fine with the system, except I don't think it's fair for Columbus to get NOTHING. It's stupid only 1st rounders get compensation. I know there was a bit of a Paliota loss scare this year and the Hawks wouldn't even get at least a draft pick somewhere which is lame. The rule applies, to all players it actually happens to be part of the benefit of the system as Bowman has recently said, no this doesn't scare him from drafting NCAA guys. He likes NCAA guys because you CAN let them groom 2-3-4 years if you think they really need it. CHL or European guys if you don't sign them after 2/3? years they as well become FAs.

It just doesn't happen to be exposed because those CHL guys have nowhere to play and being an overager there isn't helping their career nor are they in school like a college guy. European guys it happens to, and not just Russians but in recent years, more often Russians, as they can prefer to stay in the Pro Euro leagues or KHL instead of having to come here and earn their way up in the AHL. I remember quotes of a former 2nd rounder who was the Hawks pick after Kayes, Rensfeldt, were translated basically saying he felt insulted by the club for he would have to to come to the AHL. He never seemed to develop even over there but guys like that exist you lose on by not being able to sign them in the few years after your draft too.

I believe European players have 4 years as well. It's only CHL players who's rights are up after their final year of major junior or two years I believe.

It's just a dumb rule to begin with because it's allowing these NCAA players to go straight to free agency and pick their team. Make it the same as CHL players. The team owns your rights unless hey don't make you an offer.

One great thing about the Hawks making it to the Cup is that the wait for the offseason moves is basically non-existent. By next week we should start seeing a lot of these moves happening. Really excited to see how Bowman handles this summer.

Doubt Steeger is gone considering his salary, could only see it if he's packaged with one of the others to supplement a contract coming back.

Word on the street is St Louis will not re-sign Barret Jackman, with Q having a history with the Blues and a special love for past their prime Dmen, I could sure see the Hawks bringing him here LOL

If he's gone it will be for health/perpetually-in-Q's-doghouse reasons. However, there's absolutely nothing wrong with keeping him as his performance/cap hit is fine so long as he stays on the bottom six.

And stops singing at rallies.

God damn, I'm already getting pumped for next season. Adding Reilly would be awesome.

JB ‏@JB_HockeyTalk 30m30 minutes ago The Chicago Blackhawks are reportedly likely to land FA Mike Reilly. That's just not fair.

its absolutely fair because we lost Kevin Hayes.

Hayes for Reilly would be a good trade since we are fat with young forwards and could use a ready now defenseman more.

Now that the rest of the league is going to groan about it though when its a player going to the blackhawks instead of coming off the blackhawks get rid of that fucking stupid rule.

I mean...you invest in a player with a high pick...then you train them. Or wait for them, and train them. You have them in your system and you count them in future plans and then it goes to somebody else?

Its shit. Its crap.

http://www.si.com/nhl/2015/06/18/ch...es-to-sign-college-free-mike-reilly-minnesota I feel bad for Colombus, but nobody better say shit to chicago who lost a first round fucking pick man.

Please, no - seems like another Rozsival. Pick up a guy at the TDL if Johns/Pokka/TVR/(Reilly?) don't work out, but don't reach for a mid-30s, declining vet in July because you're afraid to play the kids.

That's an insult to Roszival.
