Per Jayson Stark on Twitter

Other clubs say #Cubs aggressively trying to include Starlin Castro in any deal. It was interesting that Addison Russell played SS yesterday

That is why they will end up holding. No one wants Castro and the don't want to sell on Baez.

Baez's change at the plate is significant and he needs some playing time. That is why they are shopping Castro

I think people listen to rumors to much. A month ago, the Cubs were supposively about to trade Baez. Now, they are trying to force Castro on teams and keep Baez? I will let it play out because the truth is somewhere in between and I doubt we will truly ever know.

I can't see us parting with Baez. I'd like to see him play 2B and have Russell move to SS. We should bench Castro for a bit, as he's having perhaps the single worst offensive season of any everybody player in MLB history. He currently has a .270 OBP -- which is historically bad. You cannot play in the majors with a .270 OBP, period.

Think it's more about who they are going after and what they have to offer. Its Baez or Castro really that are their most attractive pieces to move. So unless you're talking about rental pieces/bench players that's sort of who has to be moved

What? They are full time players in the majors with worse lines this year. Alcides Escobar has the same type of season 2 years ago. Da Fuq?

Seriously impressive on stats detail. Just curious, any of those 70 on a World Series winner? Has it happened that turds of this magnitude can be carried and over come?

Alcides Escobar was a all star this year. Castro isn't going to bat .230 and have OBP of .270 the rest of his career. LOL

Okay so it's not the worst line in history, my bad. But by all accounts it's absolutely brutal. He might not have a .270 OBP every season for the rest of his career -- but he is really, really, really bad. Awful, actually. As in shouldn't be in the majors, awful.

Don Wert was on the 68 tigers hitting .200/.258/.299. Before my time so can't say how integral he was and there could be other examples but he was the first i saw.

Dont care

The fact that they are aggressively trying to trade him before the dead line speaks volume to me

I expect him hitting the waver wire next. If that don't work then he will be actively shopped this winter.

He wants to be a Cub then keep sucking. No one will take on 38 million worth of head aches.

#Cubs and #Mariners have had trade talks recently. Unclear what names being discussed. Don't think it's Castro.

Do they still have a need at catcher?

If true about Castro. .

Im guessing it mainly because they are looking towards next year and beyond and want to go with Russell and Baez up the middle. .

With 2 months left in the season, they want to get Baez as many AB as possible to get accustomed to MLB pitching again, as they did last year when they brought him up..

That what im thinking. .

Probably see more of Schwarber in LF to when Montero comes back..

I think that is pretty close. I see Ross catching Arrieta and Lester. Mostly because they have a bigger array of stuff. Just like today Ross catching. Montero would make it a strait platoon. Montero worked well with Lester and I doubt they will play that game. Mostly R/L stuff.

What sucks is Cog's getting the shaft right now. Even though I saw him as filler. I believe the game plan was Schwarber to LF when they drafted him. But Schwarber is hard headed about being a catcher. Seems he will do anything to stick at the major league level right now. I'm fine with it.

Onto Baez/Castro.

Castro will get the showcase time until the deadline. Post deadline I'll bet that they put him on wavers and see if any team trys to make a play. I'm thinking they will pull him back and try to get a decent arm. Maybe Black level. Maybe better. I do not expect much to be honest. Even as young as he is his game is flawed and that will not get better.

I believe they are looking to push Baez into the line up asap.

Fowler
Schwarber
Bryant
Rizzo
Baez
Montero
Soler
Pitcher
Russell

That is a line up that can knock it out of the park. Now the SO's will jump but that is what you expect. But the BB% should jump also.

The thing is with this team is they are going to go through ups and downs but it is a numbers game. More times than not one of them with be on fire and a high impact hitter on fire holds more weight than a singles hitter on fire.

SD's Kennedy, Atlanta's Teheran among arms discussed by Cubs enter final hours before deadline http://bit.ly/1IvXCrU

Teheran would be a huge score if they can get him. This is from that link...

The Braves are motivated to move him and need hitting help across the board. And he’s considered a strong makeup guy with a fierce competitive streak. The Cubs were weighing the potential causes for the velocity issues.

The Braves covet Cubs rookie Jorge Soler, said an industry source, and might be willing to offer more than Teheran to get him.

Who was it that said something about Soler being the person to be moved to get pitching?

Schwarber can play left, Cogs and Denorphia to RF unless they pick up someone in a monster deal.

Also, Castro will not be put on waivers. He will be gone waaaayyyyy before that IMO.

I think they will throw something (prospects) in a deal to make it happen.
