Well, you keep using some of the best players EVER as your examples......... say no more, but yes, more minutes does add up. Older year games were also slower, and more physical. Today's game is a lot more running, imo, and players do need rest.

Thib's also has a bad habit of playing players in long stretches in a game. He also sits them for long stretches, which is bad, imo. He'll play a player a full quarter, and then sit him for the next, only to play that same player for the entire next quarter. This is bad.

I used to hate sitting out too long when I played. After sweating so much, you actually get cold if you sit too long. That's why you see players put on sweat jackets. I'd much rather see a player get small bursts of play regular through the entire game, rather than long on/off stretches, imo.

This can actually promote injuries. It's similar to your diet, it's much better to eat many small meals in the day, then to eat a couple big meals.

so you say you hate sitting but then your main argument is that you think players should be rested more today? I know you mentioned it as you didn't like sitting for long, but then what do you propose? a bunch of 2 minute rests as opposed to 2 rests of 7 minutes a piece? that wouldn't help players get into a flow on the court.

and of course im talking about the best players when it comes to players who played big time minutes. you think teams are going to play their scrubs 38 min a game?? heck no...the guys that play those kind of big minutes are always going to be the best players on their teams  the fact remains that minutes didn't effect those guys and these guys today are supposedly "better athletes," yet they cant play 38 min a game? I don't buy that for a second

Well, I don't want to get too off topic again in the playoff thread, but I will quickly answer your question, as I can't help myself. :dunno:

Thib's is very predictable with his subs. His 1st sub is usually at the 4:00 minute mark in the 1st. He'll sometimes sub another player at the 3:00 minute mark. What I was talking about is he'll take a starter out at 4:00 minutes, that player will sit the rest of the 1st, and at least halfway through the 2nd if not the entire 2nd.

He does this quite a bit actually. I think players get cold if you sit them that long. I'm not saying sub every 2 minutes as your saying, but maybe halfway through the 1st, sub a player, comeback with the starter at the start of the 2nd,l etc.

This way your not playing a player for a long stretch, sitting that player for a long stretch, and then coming back with that player for another long stretch. If I used an analogy, it's like using players in a sprint, rather than a marathon.

Shorter bursts of minutes allows players to go all out energy wise, but not expend too much energy in any one period. It's an easy concept. It's all about getting maximum performance, and keeping the players fresh as you do it, or pacing yourself.

As far as the best players, of course your going to play your better players more, don't be silly. I was talking about using the greatest players in history as examples, like MJ, etc. These guy were freaks, and again, the game is different today, as the long article I posted suggests.

Using your depth strategically to keep your best players fresh is strategy. That is done with wise coaching. The Bulls have a very deep team, this SHOULD be an advantage for the Bulls during the regular season, but Thib's tends to go with 8 man rotations anyhow, nulling that advantage. That's all.

Back to the playoffs ................................. Go Bulls!

what about the rumor that Stern was gonna suspend Jordan for gambling so he opted to "retire" instead

I get what youre saying, I just think youre splitting hairs over a couple minutes a game. and yes thibs is predictable with his subs, but so are a ton of coaches. and I gave reference to some other guys not named Jordan, but all you keep talking about is Jordan still lol

but I will go along with the back to the playoffs talk!

I didn't have time to respond before .....BUT, I believe your 'other' players were Akeem and Patrick. Hmmmmmmn, probably two of the the best C's ever. Also, two of the 'old time' type of C's ever. Today's C's are not like these guys! And not like their minutes as well, my other point!

I'm not sure why you can't take my opinion w/o being defensive? :dunno:

im the defensive one?? that's funny! I can give you all sorts of names at any position you want from that era that played big time minutes. and ewing and Olajuwon were "old time" centers but aren't the old time centers the type that "need" the rest more so than the new style centers that are more light and athletic?

I thought we were getting back to playoff race talk though according to you?

Both teams have a similar schedules, the Raptors have one more road game and have 4 games on the road. The Bulls actually play two tougher opponents in Cleveland and Atlanta, and its hard to say how the Bulls will do against Detroit, who they've struggled against the last two times against them.

Toronto is facing many desperation teams in Brooklyn, Boston, Charlotte who are all fighting for that 8th seed. They will also play Miami who is trying to keep their playoff spot as well.

The Bulls play 3 teams out of the race.

^^^ Id imagine that all the scrubs will be playing for the Hawks that game seeing as how it's the last game and they've already wrapped the 1 seed up.

Well the race for 7th and 8th got interesting as Miami's completely fallen off. Paul George has indeed come back giving the Pacers a really decent chance to make the playoffs.

The Bulls have a one game lead for 3rd in the East. They get two games off before playing Orlando in which many speculate will be Rose's return.

It's gonna be interesting for sure. Brooklyn vs the Cavs is an interesting matchup. Brooklyn is playing well and has some interesting matchups to me. Bulls just need to control their destiny and see where everyone falls.

Things get interesting in the West...

The Spurs can over take Memphis and send Memphis down to 6th seed. The Spurs could still over take Houston and win the division and end up at #2.

Portland will get the 4th seed no matter what due to winning their division.

OKC has fallen off the 8th slot moving New Orleans back in. Honestly at this point, I'd rather not see OKC in hopes it gets Scott Brooks fired for them and they get someone better in there to move that team forward.

Well, it appears that the Bulls not only don't want the 3rd seed and a 1st round matchup against the Bucks in Chicago, it appears they're primed to give up the 4th seed too for a 1st round matchup against Washington again in Washington. The Bulls are the only team fighting for a playoff seed that lost tonight. Now we get to go to Miami for a back to back. :elephant:

We're gonna lose all of our games for the rest of the year so that we have the hardest possible playoff path :elephant:

The only thing that they have to do is to effectively blend Rose into the team. IF they can blend him into the team well, the rest will take care of itself. If they do, they will win the East and face the Spurs in the championship series and lose:)

Isaiah Thomas was saying before the game that the Bulls may be thinking they want the 4th seed because then they don't have to play Cleveland until the ECF if they were to play them. Of course, that's assuming we're competent enough to win another game this year.
