I'm glad Babcock decided to leave the wasteland that is DeToliet for a better opportunity in a better city. I was starting to get worried the Blues were going to take him. The fun part of all this is Babcock will face the Wings 5 times a year.

Does this mean DeToliet's playoff streak is over?

Probably not.
Returning to their 15-16 campaign of note:
Datsyuk
Zetterberg
Franzen
Tatar
Helm
D. Miller
Kronwall
Ericsson
Quincey
Mrazek

Dead weight:
Weiss (Detroit's Bickell- hurt for most of the year, but didn't really contribute offensively)
Howard (to Wings fans)

Notable RFA/UFAs
Jurco
Nyquist
Cole
B. Smith
Gustavsson

They have a very fortunate goaltender situation.
On paper I see them making the post season next year.
I also don't understand the comment of a "better city." That really doesn't mean anything. Detroit is an O6 team. They will draw good coaching and FAs. Bylsma may be a good fit for that franchise.

It's possible but I have been predicting a Redwings playoff miss for a couple years now and it doesnt happen because that **** Datsyuk never slows down and their europeans are all getting better like cardboard applicator.

But this could be the year!! JOY JOY JOY!! Wonder who they bring into coach. THat's going to be interesting.

DeToliet is the worst city in America (and possibly in the world if you take out cities that wars are being fought in). That will factor into FAs decisions. and it likely factored into Babcock's decision. There is no way he leaves the team he has in DeToliet if the city is even marginally good, regardless of how much money Buffalo and Toronto wave at him.

You can't seriously be this dumb.
Well, maybe you are since you're shitting on a city and a franchise that's one of the best run in all of sports.
So much so that the Blackhawks copied and pasted their model.

Yes, the city of Detroit has its issues.
It never kept away some of the best players to ever play the game of hockey or their respective coaches.

I don't remember Scotty Bowman walking away from the table going "**** that town of Detroit."
How bad did Nicklas Lidström want out of the motor city? Yzerman? Datsyuk? Zetterberg?

except players typically bend over backwards to go to Detroit
except that Detroit has some of the nicest suburbs out of any hockey market.
except you're an idiot. The players aren't living in one of the burnt out houses in Detroit.

When you're playing for a team that's a dynasty, you're willing to put up with living in or around America's worst city. Problem is, they're not a dynasty anymore. So players aren't going to "bend over backwards" to go there.

You're still incorrect, blinded by your prejudice against Detroit as a meatball fan. Franzen and Zetterberg could go anywhere. They chose Detroit (probably with no movement clauses). Datsyuk signed an extension. The team was one goal away from going to the WCF in 2013.
When the team is in contention for the lottery pick, then I will agree they are very far from their golden years. This is the same team that took a very talented Tampa team to a game 7.

There's little doubt in my mind that the Wings will find another excellent coach to take over the reins of the franchise. That front office is excellent.

Yeah, it's what they do. Holland is the best GM in the league, and according to BHP, Detroit is one of the best cities in the world and people will "bend over backwards" to go there.

When one of the nickname of your city is 'Hockeytown" I think that draws a few players to sign. It's a hockey city and hockey players do like playing in hockey cities not called Toronto.

Detroit will never be in jeopardy of not being able to sign players. And hell as a European born player living and growing up in the scummy lands of Russia etc do you think living in Detroit would bother them at all? Not a chance.

There are some pretty nice suburbs around Detroit, and I'm about 90 percent sure that's where most of the players live, anyway.

If you don't think people want to play in Detroit, you're mistaken. The city isn't great, no, but the quality of that organization is a pretty damn good compensation.

If you haven't figured it out by now Paul is just a modtroll like the rest. Better watch out for the Hawks forum ban of you keep disagreeing with him.

Oh don't start on the Hockeytown bullshit. How can they be hockeytown when their arena is half empty 95% of the time. Montreal or Toronto are the only two cities with NHL teams that deserve that title. Those fans live and breathe hockey. The Air Canada Centre had less empty seats on average than the Joe despite the team sucking ass.

I can't take anyone who defends Detroit being "Hockeytown" seriously.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
As bad as the mess Babcock has to clean up in Toronto--it's still better than the dumpster fire McLellan is inheriting in Edmonton.

This much is true. There is no arguing that. 24(?) straight years in the playoffs and countless late-round gems says it all.

I was the one who said that players "bend over backwards" to go to Detroit. If you're going to be a little ***** about it, make sure you cite your sources correctly.

You obviously don't read very well.
I don't think many of us would want to live in Detroit proper, but I'll take Grosse Pointe.

This is essentially the same thing I posted, but tribar agrees with you. LOL

You love me Grimmy. Otherwise you wouldn't drink with me or help my wife find pants.
