Not too long ago we were talking about the Cubs not having much at the C position. Now all of a sudden we could be looking at having too many. Nice problem to have. :yep:

Yeap! Wish we had that in the starting rotation as well, and the good thing is that the FO knows this and will do there home work to tweak it even further.

Even though there are still question marks throughout the team, at least a lot look to be being answered. That will be the plus to this year. We finally get to see them all on the same team together good as well as bad, and playing for a heck of a coach.

Minus Russell, Schwarber, Almora, Johnson, and Edwards of course. But they are pushing too. ;)

Never want to see anyone hurt but I kinda feel like Turner's injury is a blessing in disguise. It gives them a chance to take a long look at him in a rehab stint rather than having to force him onto the roster.

Wood was hit pretty hard today. He didnt look like he had any of his pitches working. Its going to be interesting to see who gets the 5th spot.

I hate Spring Training. I brush off the good things as "it's just spring training" and I take the bad things as "well if he can't do better in spring training, he'll never do better".

Just get me to April 5th :cubspalm:

#5 spot:
Wood: 2 GS: 5 IP 7 hits 4 runs (2 earned) 0 BB 4 SO 0 HR. I like the 0 BB and 0 HR. He had issues with BB last year and is a fly ball pitcher. (there is something to be gained from S/T info)

E-Jax: 1 GS 2 IP 4 hits 4 runs (0 earned) 0 BB 1 SO 1 HR. Errors killed him but he was not fooling anyone either. Wood would have to implode to lose to him.

Turner: injured.
Wada: Hammy was slowing him down. I see him as a fall back if the 2 vets implode.

That's true of even the best teams.

Well, not every time their 5th goes, but often.

I still think Wood is the likely winner with Wada out.

Trevor Bauer, 24 years old

2014 season: 153 IP, 4.18 ERA, 4.10 FIP, 1.379 WHIP

He is slotted in as the number 4 pitcher for the Indians. I dont know about you but that seems like they face ML competition.

So we know three hitters that are ahead of the pitchers ;)

Guaranteed loss every 5th day. Nice.

If it's Wood? Are you certain he can't get back to his 2013 form?

That being said I don't think that it's any surprise that if this team is competing in June/July that they will be looking at pitching.

Lots of below average isn't something to brag about. The Cubs still need a catcher. Montero is not the answer.

Probably because you lower Wood's value (if he has any) if you put him in the bullpen. If you put Wada there he can replace Wood if he's bad.

With his framing skills he's an MLB starting catcher. If Castillo had those skills they never would have gotten him. All of this is banking on Schwarber in 2 years though. Montero will do until then.

I agree that they would have never gotten him, but in essence now they got two guys that can't hit in the lineup with sub defensive skills.

Well, you've got one that can block and throw in Castillo and one that can frame pitches in Montero. Framing was what they thought was more important and so that's where they went. Montero can hit, he just usually doesn't. I think this puts them in line with about 2/3 of MLB in terms of the catching position. Schwarber will probably be an above average major league hitter and if he doesn't kill you behind the plate that's your answer. I'm not saying any of it is perfect but it is a tough position to get right.

Montero is one of the better catchers at calling a game. Defensively its a big upgrade.

Its Wellington Castillo that's the colossal **** up when it comes to calling a game.
