It's kinda the "in" thing right now .... The linebacker depth seems a bit weak but I think we could do it!

Peppers could play end and we'd have enough depth to fill the rest of the line except that huge middle guy of course. Briggs and BU could play the middle ... Thoughts?

The Bears are the only team in the NFL to have never installed a 3-4 defense.

I'm all for it.

Really any system works when you have the talent for it and the right coaches coaching it.

So if the new HC wants to run a 3-4, go for it.

It'll all depend on the new HC. The pick of McClellin last year made me think initially that Emery's vision was a 3-4...but idk. We'll see what happens.

4-3 is fun to watch. I love watching our defensive line battle their offensive line.

With that being said, I wish we would blitz a little more and get a little more create in that sense.

i think this is the reason we actually drafted Shea, he is the prototypical 3-4 outside LB.

I don't think we have the interior linemen for it. I doubt it isn Emery's plans

One thing I've heard from people is the situation we would have with peppers. Do we trade him? No, do we make him an olb? No. We keep him at de. His ability to stop the run and penetrate still would make him a top d-line player. Imagine him with McClellin on the same side tearing up Lt's like the smith brothers in San Fran.

It'll be interesting that's for sure! I think the 3-4 would be a radical change and probably not suited for the current group.

I think he would be great as an end also

We're not ready for a change like that...we would need time for something like that

I think Peppers could play DE in the 3-4, as could probably Melton, with McClellin at OLB. But I don't think Briggs or Urlacher are really suited for the 3-4. And I don't think we really have anyone to play NT.

Transitioning to a 3-4 is really far fetched considering our current players imo. I personally don't like 3-4's either but who knows?

I like Zone Blocking Schemes, and think Forte would flourish in it but I don't think we have the players on the OL right now for that either, everything's really up in the air at this point.

Wouldn't switching to a 3-4 basically turn Melton into Haynesworth as a Redskin? No thanks.

I'm with you guys, I'm just trying to be open minded about the possibility. The Colts had nothing close to a 3-4 roster and they managed. So i'm just wondering what the football minds were thinking about this.
