It wont be a seamless transition but at the same time should not be all that rough either.
Dline- wootton and peppers at the ends, depending on the type of 3-4 paea could fit as a 1gap nt. if not someone like knighton would be a good fit.
LB's mcclellin and melton would be the outside linebackers...briggs would be one ilb along with urlacher as the mike backer assuming his demands are reasonable.
Secondary - would suffice for now as emery drafts younger better man to man talent.

Its dumb to switch to the in-fashion scheme. Its just all that much harder to fill the key positions. Good luck finding a NT these days.

Peppers can play both DE and OLB in a 3-4. He almost went to some 3-4 teams in free agency with the intention of being an olb though. Lovies system is what liked him inside, most coaches would prefer to get bigger and have him stand up. Scary.

We have McClellin and Peppers at OLB already, and Melton if resigned plus Paea as 3-tech DT/ 3-4 DE tweeners who should be given a shot.

That means we basically need a nose tackle and a middle linebacker, although I think Briggs/Urlacher would be a good ILB duo next year, and worth trying. They would be allowed to blitz more.

So...essentially we need a nose tackle and linebacker depth because our secondary is old enough to adjust to anything. I don't think it would be hard to switch at all.

Melton is a FA. If they were switching to a 3-4 and new coaches didn't feel confident he would fit in, he could just be left to walk or only offered cheap deals.

I don't think we have the interior linemen for it. I doubt it isn Emery's plans

Exactly! Who is our NT? That is considered one of the most important positions in a 3-4 (look at the successful ones out there). We don't have the draft picks to switch the defense to 3-4 and fix the oline/te...

RTB only wants 3-4 because everyone else is doing it.

I think the opportunity is there, it's just whether or not they choose to go that route.

It's now almost an advantage to run a 4-3 though as the personnel gets passed over for bigger 3-4 types.

It's gonna be wierd watching the Bears under a different HC.

Dumb and pointless move IMO. It's something Josh McDaniels would do in the nightmare scenario he winds up the Bears HC. Let's see, the defense played absolutely great when healthy while the offense underachieved and is clearly the weakness of the team..... soooooo lets completely change the defense and trade all the talent we have on offense!! Shoot me now.

This team doesn't need need to be completely blown up and rebuilt from the ground up on both offense AND defense. Whoever winds up the next coach just needs to FIX THE FUCKING OFFENSIVE LINE and add some more depth to the defense to better deal with injuries and he's got a playoff team next season.

That's some great GM work right there. Draft and develop arguably the best 4-3 DT in the league and let him walk for nothing. Love it!!! Maybe we can trade Brandon Marshall away for a 3rd or 4th rounder too! smh.

That's exactly what it would be. It's just a possibility if you hire a HC who is a stickler for his guys and wants a scheme change.

3-4 wouldn't work here. We have two maybe three players that would work in it

THIS^. We were 10-6 people. Our offense is the problem not the defense. This continuing nonsense about blowing up the defense and trading all our good players so we can switch to a 3-4 cause that would be different is the height of meatball goofiness. Had the offense been able to score a measly 18 points in a couple games Lovie would still have a job and we would be in the playoffs.

It's being talked about because it's a possibility. It's not like anyone here is going to make the decisions; so it's about talking about what could happen if the switch was made.

The same thing was said about GB. Heck, they probably only had one player.

It's a process obvious. Probably would take at least two years to get players you need to run the system at a basic level.

I think Peppers could play DE in the 3-4, as could probably Melton, with McClellin at OLB. But I don't think Briggs or Urlacher are really suited for the 3-4. And I don't think we really have anyone to play NT.

Briggs and Urlacher would do just fine in a 3-4. Look at Ray Lewis. Smooth transition.

Too bad that Urlacher pretty much hates the Bears and their fans and clearly doesn't want to come back sans Lovie.

I thought when Emery drafted Shea that he wanted to go to a 3-4. I think that was his stamp of authority on it.
