#Rockies exploring trades for Ian Stewart... Cubs are one team w interest. Not sure to what degree but have interest

If the Cubs want a strikeout machine that hits for a low average and plays average defense at 3rd, then why don't they just make Vitters their starting 3rd baseman then?

At this point all these tweets should be taken with a grain of salt. I think Chase Headley is much more likely. I think the Cubs using an in-house option is even more likely. I don't think Vitters comes up until 2013 if at all...they probably stick LeMahieu there instead.

They obviously aren't going to have Ramirez there so unless they get Headley in trade I don't see many other options.

Why it was stupid for A-Ram not be thought for in 2013 season. 3B is down big time. Also just saw A-Ram break down on MLB NETWORK, He killed at Wrigley

It's not stupid, but we don't even know what the Cubs' plan is because they won't tell the media yet. Every indication is that they'll let Aramis sign elsewhere and pocket the draft pick. Which is why they'll have to look for other options unless there is a plan in place to have him back. We know Aramis is good, we just don't know whether he fits with whatever the plan is.

I honestly think thats why Cubs dont want him back. They rather have that sandwhich pick. I just think the big drop off in production at 3B for next 2-3 years not worth it.

What is that production doing for us though? We aren't competing yet we don't need a 33 year old 3rd baseman making upwards of 10-15 million dollars a year when you can just start a kid for not even a quarter of that and see what they can do. Cubs are rebuilding. Aramis Ramirez isn't a piece you bring back if you are rebuilding you bring him back if you are competing.

Because Vitters can't play average defense at 3rd?

Have you read one article or listen to 1 interview with Cubs front office? THEY ARE NOT REBUILDING!!! They said they have 2 projects. 1: To build up the minor league system. 2: To compete cause with the resourses they have there is NO reason why they cant contend. They said they will not hurt the future by going for it in 2012 but will try to contend. So signing A-ram WILL NOT hurt the future in 3-4 years. There is NO 3B even close ready in Cubs system. Vitters is still 2 years away, Baez is still 3-4 years away. So again signing A-Ram to 3 year deal doesnt hurt them in the future. I think the reason they are not resigning him is cause of defense. Thoyer keeps saying he wants to improve the defense. 1 place you can do that is 3B. I just think losing all that production in offense will offset the defense they get. If they were rebuilding then we would see Vitters, LaHair, Coleman, Shark, Cashner all starting. Not going after guys like Fielder, Pujols, and other names we have heard

WERE NOT RESIGNING HIM BECAUSE 1 HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE HERE HE WANTS TO CONTEND. 2 WE ARE FUCKING REBUILDING. AND 3 WE AREN'T EVEN CLOSE TO FUCKING COMPETING YOU FUCKING IDIOT! RAMIREZ IS PAST HIS PRIME GOING INTO THE BACK END OF HIS CAREER, AND HE IS GOING TO MAKE MORE THEN HE SHOULD DUE TO THE SCARCE AMOUNT OF TALENT AVAILABLE AT 3RD BASE THIS YEAR. HOW THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE GOING TO COMPETE RIGHT NOW? WE HAVE NO PITCHING STAFF OUTSIDE OF GARZA, OUR OUTFIELD IS A FUCKING MESS WITH SORIANO AND BYRD. AND THE INFIELD IS CONSISTED OF PENA DARWIN FUCKING BARNEY AND CASTRO! YOU CAN'T COMPETE WITH THAT TEAM IT NEEDS MORE THEN ONE OFFSEASON AND ONE BIG BAT TO FIX THE DAMN TEAM.

Find me something that saids they are rebuilding? I can find you articles sayint they are not! Pena is NOT a Cub!!! He is a FA!! All i have read is Cubs will have around 130 mil payroll. With ARB guys, payroll be around 85 mil, So if they are smart they can get alot for 40 mil + ALSO now that they cant go nuts in draft like they thought that extra money can go in payroll. Also with another WC being added i think Cubs feel they should give it a shot. Once your in the playoffs anything can happen.

"I'm going to look for moves that make us better in the long run, but don't negatively impact us in 2012," Epstein said

"We don't talk about rebuilding," Ricketts said. "We are coming to win every year. However, we will not look at 2012 at the expense of our long term future."

There are 2 quotes saying THEY ARE NOT REBUILDING!!! Yes they are not going to go nuts just to win it in 2012.

I will make you a deal bud. If the Cubs make the Playoffs next season I'll leave the board. If they don't you leave the board. Sound fair? Because you are so fuckin Special person. Its blatently obvious we are rebuilding. How is it not? Were letting Ramirez walk, possibly Pena and if we bring him back hes just a stop gap anyways, we have no pitching and the contracts are set to expire within the next couple seasons. Were in a prime position to rebuild. Find me one article where Theo said the Sox were actually rebuilding when they did? Oh right he sugarcoated it. Just like he did with us.

Theo took over a 90+ win from BOS you moron!!!!!! He did no rebuilding with BOS. What he did with BOS was build up the farm system!! Theo and Hoyer have both come out and said there is 2, AGAIN 2 projects, 1: Build up the farm like they did in BOS and ALSO to make the MLB competitive! If Cubs were rebuilding you would see guys like Vitters, McNutt etc coming up. Instead we are hearing of FA they are going after. I never said they were going to make the playoffs. I said they are going to try and compete. Another way to prove they are not rebuilding will be look at the payroll beginning of season. If its 120 mil + then its not rebuilding. Teams can build on the fly which Cubs are trying to do cause of there resources.

They aren't ready yet you don't rush them if they aren't ready. Again we aren't actually competing. Baseballs a business. he's not gonna say we aren't gonna compete don't even bother showing up next year. There trying to make money.

I see you two have exhausted yourselves for now

Being that the plan has not been revealed, we don't know whether they are rebuilding or not, but we know that they aren't very willing to bring Ramirez back, probably won't bring Pena back unless he accepts that arbitration offer (which is why they gambled by offering it anyway) and are going to try to net a couple more supplementary round picks. They are floating lots of options which is what good front offices do.

I don't think anyone has to leave the board but it isn't completely clear one way or the other, so let's just wait and see.
