wino made a very important point about brookbank. right handed shot and stick. def needed that. again its a small hole fixed but at least that small hole was filled correctly.

no need to get pissy about things not being done on the first day of free agency. its a long long summer.

there were teams with holes big and small who didn't do jack shit today. at the very least stan approached one and filled it. some real odd contracts going around today to..at least stan didn't do something stupid like sign Whitney to ten million over two years.

would have loved to hear parises choice today. would have made good conversation.

The price is right. Brookbank is an upgrade on the 2nd pairing PK which sucked last season. If Joe Thorton or M-E Vlasic or some such POS tries to **** with Captain Johnnie, Brookbank will answer the bell.

Still plenty of time this summer for EDM to get a fucking clue and get themselves some more D (outside of that chump Schultz) and give us Gagner for Hammer + Monty, heh.

Strange thought came to my mind tonight. Hammer to the Sharks for Marty Havlat straight up. I didn't smoke any hippy lettuce but I think I might be high. Have no idea where that came from.

@TSNBobMcKenzie

For those asking, I was told Sheldon Brookbank's deal in CHI is 2 years at $1.25M per year.

The Hawks would have to throw in a Doug Wilson bobble head night to get the deal done.

On second thought, can we get Wilson's daughter on the way back and make her a member of the Ice Crew?

He's not just a fighter Maiden. Had you actually done some research instead of just talking out your ass you would see this.

He was +11 in 80 games averaging 15:36 minutes a game.

He plays physical, blocks shots, and kills penalties. He's not just a "fighter" and actually competes game in and game out.

Sorry not every signing is going to be for a superstar.

The emphasis of my post was that the day pretty much came and went with nada.................just like draft night.

The Stan era does nothing for anyone.

As far as doing my research I'll give you a line right out of the RK playbook on this Canada Day.................**** OFF!

Oh I'm sorry, who would you like the Hawks to go out and sign to make this a better day for you?

This market is weak outside of Parise and Suter. The Hawks don't have the cap space to sign either, probably not what they are getting offers for from the rest of league.

So StanBo goes out and shores up the lack of physicality that the Hawks desperately lack on the back end and someone who can play the PK and give our better Dmen some breaks during games. It's not a pretty signing that everyone is bitching about (twitter mainly), but it fixes a whole.

actually Trev the Hawks DO have cap space to sign one of them. There is over 8 mil sitting there. 11.5 if they can deal Hjarlmarsson.

Even more when you figure 4 of the CURRENT roster are on two way contracts.

So that excuse doesn't fly.

Now, if the Hawks can free up some cap space from the 14 Forwards and 8 defensemen that are currently rostered, I could see them being able to go after a Suter or Parise but until that happens, we don't have room on this team for them made or the cap space.

According to capgeek, we have 6.8 million in cap space. Parise and Suter are getting offers for more than 6.8 million. Unless you aren't counting Montador, but nobody has said he is not playing again for the Hawks, everything has said he's back to training.

Again take the 4 players with two way contracts off. They have the space if they want to use it that way. No question.

They didn't use it at the TDL last season not sure why they would now. Other than Huet is now off the books.

I really don't see the Hawks making any huge signings this off season. I could see a big trade, but the market for Suter and Parise is very high and I don't think it would be in the Hawks best interest to get tangled up in the cap space web we were in after we won the cup.
